Hylamer polyethylene was introduced in the 1990s as an alternative to conventional polyethylene. Its chemical and physical properties, and especially its high crystallinity, were claimed to improve resistance to wear. Initially Hylamer devices were sterilized by gamma radiation in air, then the technique was changed and gamma radiation was performed in the absence of oxygen. Clinical experience has shown the early loosening of some devices made from Hylamer. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects and safety of Medpor porous high-density polyethylene implanted material in the reconstruction of orbital margin defects.
METHODS: Sixteen cases of orbital margin defects were treated with Medpor.
RESULTS: The orbital margin defects in 16 cases with orbital defects were successfully treated with Medpor. During a follow-up of 1 to 4 years (averaged 2.4 years), there was no extrusion, absorption or migration of the implants.

The retention of 45 barbituric acid derivatives was determined on a polyethylene-coated silica column (PEE) in unbuffered methanol-water eluent mixtures. OBJECTIVE: The aim was to examine the role of oxygen derived free radicals in the development of myocarditis by investigating the effects of polyethylene glycol conjugated superoxide dismutase (PEG-SOD), a potent scavenger of oxygen free radicals, upon coxsackievirus B3 (CB3) myocarditis.

Polyurethane (PU) and polyethylene (PE) catheters were distributed by randomization among adult ICU patients to evaluate the impact of the catheter polymer on the rate of catheter-related sepsis (CRS). A modified subtalar arthrorisis is obtained by implantation of an endoprosthesis manufactured from ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene. A procedure involving cryoprecipitation of human plasma in the presence of polyethylene glycol results in consistently higher yields of antihemophilic factor and von Willebrand factor than were heretofore achieved by cryoprecipitation alone. The resulting AHF and vWF are at least as pure as ordinary cryoprecipitate and can easily be further purified by additional processing. The method is expected to be especially useful in the preparation of AHF and vWF concentrates for the treatment of patients with hemophilia or von Willebrand's disease.
