Seroepidemiological study of Rickettsia felis, Rickettsia typhi, and Rickettsia conorii infection among the population of southern Spain.

Rickettsia typhi and Rickettsia conorii, the etiologic agents of, respectively, murine typhus and Mediterranean spotted fever, are recognized as frequent causes of fever of intermediate duration in southern Spain; in addition, in recent years Rickettsia felis has been detected in potential vectors in this area. Nevertheless, limited data exist regarding the actual prevalence of past infection due to these three pathogens. In the present study, the prevalence of past infection due to R. felis, R. typhi, and R. conorii was determined in a representative population of southern Spain during 2002.

Food-specific decision-making in anorexia nervosa: a comparative study of clinical, at-risk, and healthy control groups.

This study compared individuals with Restrictive Anorexia Nervosa (R-AN; n = 40), Healthy Controls (HCs; n = 45), and individuals at risk for eating disorders (RI; n = 38) using a Reinforcement Learning (RL) paradigm. Participants completed a Probabilistic Reversal Learning (PRL) task involving food-related and neutral contexts. The study examined whether RL impairments in R-AN are context-specific and whether they reflect maintaining factors or preclinical markers. R-AN participants showed reduced learning rates in food-related contexts compared to HC and RI but performed similarly in neutral

Comparative Analysis of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Registrations and Risk Factor Correlations in the UK (2022-24).

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus imposes a growing burden due to rising prevalence, complications, and costs. Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), an autoimmune condition, primarily affects younger individuals, whereas Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is linked to lifestyle and socioeconomic factors in adults. Understanding how demographic, socioeconomic, and ethnic factors correlate with T1D and T2D registrations can guide targeted interventions. OBJECTIVES: To compare correlations between risk factors (age, socioeconomic deprivation, ethnicity) and T1D versus T2D registrations in the UK across the 2022-23 and 2023-24

Prognostic impacts of biological and conditional factors in patients with anatomically resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma treated with preoperative chemoradiotherapy.

The efficacy of preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for anatomically resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma (R-PDAC) remains contentious. This study aims to elucidate the treatment outcomes of preoperative CRT for R-PDAC and to identify prognostic factors. This retrospective study included 109 R-PDAC patients treated with gemcitabine- or S-1 plus gemcitabine-based preoperative CRT from February 2005 to April 2023. Cox proportional hazards regression was employed to identify factors associated with worse overall survival (OS). Among the 109 cases, 90 patients (82.6%) underwent curative-intent re

An updated Lagrangian constrained mixture model of pathological cardiac growth and remodelling.

Progressive left ventricular (LV) growth and remodelling (G&R) is often induced by volume and pressure overload, characterized by structural and functional adaptation through myocyte hypertrophy and extracellular matrix remodelling, which are dynamically regulated by biomechanical factors, inflammation, neurohormonal pathways, etc. When prolonged, it can eventually lead to irreversible heart failure. In this study, we have developed a new framework for modelling pathological cardiac G&R based on constrained mixture theory using an updated reference configuration, which is triggered by altered

Parallel investigation of oxidative stress and nutritional profile in women with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Genetic predisposition, inflammation, and oxidative stress are known contributors to the development of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). While genetic factors are non-modifiable, lifestyle, nutritional factors and oxidative stress may represent areas for intervention. This study aimed to assess biochemical markers of oxidative stress and evaluate dietary intake in women with newly diagnosed HT, identified through population-based screening. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 600 women aged 18-45 years, where 92 were diagnosed with euthyroid HT. Nutrients, based on a seven-day food diary,
