Linking health risks, pollution indices, and contamination sources in urban soils of Central Serbia.

Serbia represents a valuable setting for improving soil pollution monitoring, particularly in urban environments facing regulatory and infrastructural constraints. In a country with some of the highest cancer incidence and mortality rates in Europe, persistent soil contamination poses a critical environmental and public health concern. This study provides an integrated assessment of radiological and chemical health risks in the soils of one of Serbia's largest cities, impacted by intensive industrial activities and war-related damage. Activity concentrations of radionuclides and metal contents

Health care workers' ability and willingness to report to duty during catastrophic disasters.

Catastrophic disasters create surge capacity needs for health care systems. This is especially true in the urban setting because the high population density and reliance on complex urban infrastructures (e.g., mass transit systems and high rise buildings) could adversely affect the ability to meet surge capacity needs. To better understand responsiveness in this setting, we conducted a survey of health care workers (HCWs) (N =6,428) from 47 health care facilities in New York City and the surrounding metropolitan region to determine their ability and willingness to report to work during various

Radiology preparedness in ebola virus disease: guidelines and challenges for disinfection of medical imaging equipment for the protection of staff and patients.

The overlap of early Ebola virus disease (EVD) symptoms (eg, fever, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, emesis, and fatigue) with symptoms of other more common travel-related diseases (eg, malaria, typhoid fever, pneumonia, and meningococcemia) may result in delayed diagnosis of EVD before isolation of infected patients. Radiology departments should consider policies for and approaches to decontamination of expensive and potentially easily damaged radiology equipment. In addition, the protection of radiology personnel must be considered during the work-up phase of undiagnosed EVD patients pres

Near-zero x-ray in arrhythmia ablation using a 3-dimensional electroanatomic mapping system: A multicenter experience.

BACKGROUND: Radiation exposure related to conventional tachyarrhythmia radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) carries small but not negligible stochastic and deterministic effects on health. These effects are cumulative and potentially more harmful in younger individuals. Nonfluoroscopic mapping systems can significantly reduce the radiological exposure and in some cases it can completely eliminate it. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of a complete nonfluoroscopic approach for RFCA compared with ablation procedures performed under fluorosco
