We studied bone resorption in rats bearing the ia and tl osteopetrotic mutant genes by measuring the release of previously incorporated 45Ca from the long bone shafts of 19-day fetuses. Fetuses from matings of ia/ia to ia/+ rats showed good bone resorptive responses. We have investigated the genetic control of murine catalase expression by analyzing catalase transcription and translation products from the tissues of control (Csa) and acatalasemic (Csb) mouse strains. BACKGROUND/AIMS: Experimental and clinical evidence suggested that monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1/CCL2) has a role in the development of interstitial inflammation and renal failure in polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Administration of Sn-protoporphyrin to Gunn rats that are characterized by a genetically determined absence of UDP-glucuronyl transferase activity for bilirubin, 24-30 h after birth, prevented the marked increase in serum bilirubin concentration that occurs in these animals in the postnatal period.
