Retroperitoneal lipomatosis--report of two cases with an unusual distribution.

Two cases of retroperitoneal lipomatosis with an unusual distribution are reported. In the first case the fat was confined to the perirectal soft tissues and the sigmoid mesentery, whereas in the second case it was peripancreatic and extended into the small bowel mesentery. The lipomatous nature of these retroperitoneal masses was suggested by the lucency of the fat on the plain abdominal roentgenograms. These cases were studied prior to the availability of computed tomography, so that the diagnoses were confirmed by surgical exploration, which may have been avoided by this currently available

Plain film diagnosis of retrocecal appendicitis.

The plain radiographic findings encountered in 21 patients with acute retrocecal appendicitis were analyzed. In descending order of frequency, the following changes were noted: (a) edema infiltration of properitoneal fat; (b) mass between properitoneal fat and ascending colon; (c) a coprolith above the anterior superior iliac spine; (d) gas in the appendix; (e) haustral irregularity of the ascending colon; and (f) retrocecal extraperitoneal gas.

[Open abdominal trauma with inferior vena cava injury].

The authors report surgical treatment of a patient with a penetrating abdominal trauma followed by damage to inferior vena cava, liver, duodenum and pancreas, massive bleeding and large retroperitoneal hematoma. Suturing of inferior vena cava defect, liver and pancreas, Billroth II gastric resection, drainage of retroperitoneal space and abdominal cavity were carried out. Postoperative period was complicated by pneumonia and seroma in lesser sac that required percutaneous puncture. Antibiotic therapy was used postoperatively. The patient was discharged in 25 days after surgery.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration for the diagnosis of a case of a huge abdominal mass.

Testicular mixed germ cell tumor is characterized by high degree of malignancy and prone to metastasis, the common of which is retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis. At present, EUS has a very important diagnostic value for mediastinal, enterocoelia and retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis of malignant tumors. It also has a positive value for the space occupying of parenchyma or cavity organ and can be used for the puncture operation of multiple lesions under real-time ultrasound monitoring with high safety and small complications.

Beyond the surface: A comprehensive radiological review of primary retroperitoneal neoplasms.

Primary retroperitoneal neoplasms (PRNs) are a complex and diverse group of tumors arising in the retroperitoneal space, excluding those from retroperitoneal organs. These masses present significant diagnostic challenges due to their heterogeneous nature. PRNs primarily include sarcomas, neurogenic tumors, extragonadal germ cell tumors, and lymphomas, with the majority being malignant. This necessitates thorough evaluation by radiologists to assess resectability and the need for biopsy. Liposarcomas, the most common primary retroperitoneal sarcomas, and leiomyosarcomas, known for potential ves…

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the retroperitoneum removed via a retroperitoneoscopic approach.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory pseudotumors were mostly encountered in the lung. Retroperitoneal inflammatory pseudotumors are relatively rare. Although laparoscopic surgery with a modified flank position is widely performed for retroperitoneal tumors, we placed the patient in the supine position to maintain the normal anatomical view of the retroperitoneal space. We report a case of retroperitoneal inflammatory pseudotumor extracted via retroperitoneoscopic surgery in the supine position. METHODS AND RESULTS: A 53-year-old man presented with back pain and frequent urination. Ultrasonographic exami…

Giant primary retroperitoneal seminoma: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Primary extragonadal seminomas are rare tumors. There have been only a few cases of the primary retroperitoneal seminomas reported in the literature up to date. CASE REPORT: We reported a 56-year-old man with giant primary retroperitoneal seminoma presented with the enlargement of the left side of the abdomen and deep venous thrombosis of the left leg. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed a large tumor occupying the left part of the retroperitoneal space with 23 x 13 cm in diameter. Firm tumor mass having 25 x 15 cm in diameter was surgically removed from the left retroperi…

Malignant retroperitoneal fibrosis: MRI characteristics in 50 patients.

We analyzed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) morphologic patterns of retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF) to identify those able to distinguish malignant RF (mRF) from idiopathic RF (iRF). This retrospective study concerned 50 consecutive patients with MRI-based RF diagnoses, 35 of whom also had histologically proven RF. Previous radiotherapy, abdominal or pelvic surgery or infection during the preceding 6 months, vascular aneurysm (aorta or iliac artery), presence of retroperitoneal multiple nodular masses, or enlarged lymph nodes with a diameter >15 mm constituted exclusion criteria. Patients with

Retroperitoneal tumour resection in fifteen consecutive cases: Single centre experience.

INTRODUCTION: Retroperitoneal tumours (RTs) in adults are a rare heterogeneous group of neoplasms arising from the retroperitoneal space. RTs'clinical manifestations are nonspecific and depend on their anatomical positioning and relation with bordering structures. Our study aimed to retrospectively evaluate our patients' diagnosis, length of hospital stay, disease-free period and postoperative metastasis occurrence. METHODS: From 2011 to 2019, fifteen suspected RT resections were performed at our centre. Retrospective analysis of patients' hospital stays, follow-up, histological and immunolog…

[A Case of Venous Malformation that Occurred in the Retroperitoneum].

A 70-year-old man complaining of pain in his right leg presented to the Department of Orthopedics in our hospital. X-ray findings revealed calcifications around the left kidney. He was referred to our department for further examination. Computed tomography revealed a tumor 3 cm in diameter with calcifications and an obscure border that was located on the caudal side of the pancreas, anterior to the left iliopsoas muscle and at the left side of the aorta. Magnetic resonance imaging showed that the tumor had comparatively low intensity in diffusion-weighted images and the cell density was not hi

Localization of solitary and multiple metastases in stage II nonseminomatous testis tumor as basis for a modified staging lymph node dissection in stage I.

Because of a continuing need for pathological staging of clinical stage I testicular tumors an investigation was performed to determine the primary sites of metastatic involvement of the retroperitoneal lymph nodes and to define narrowly limited ipsilateral areas of lymph node dissection strictly for the purpose of staging. Surgical/pathological localization of solitary metastases provides the most direct evidence of primary lymphatic spread. There were 214 consecutive patients with stage II disease (excluding bulky disease) evaluated with respect to localization relative to the side of the in
