The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between matchday wellness status and a technical-tactical performance construct during rugby match-play. One hundred and thirty-three male rugby union players (73 forwards and 60 backs) from five under-18 national squads who participated in the under-18 Six Nations competition completed a subjective wellness questionnaire on each matchday morning. Players subjectively rated each item (sleep quality, fatigue, muscle soreness, stress and mood) on a five-point Likert scale to calculate their daily wellness status (i.e. difference between…

BACKGROUND: Tackling is a vital skill in rugby that greatly influences both performance outcomes, such as carry distance and possession gain, and injury risk, such as the frequency of concussions and cervical injuries. Approximately 72% of head impacts in rugby occur during tackles, leading to concussions and cervical trauma. Technical skill in tackle mechanics is therefore central to player safety.
OBJECTIVES: This systematic review evaluates tackle biomechanics across age groups to identify differences in technique and injury patterns and to inform age-specific coaching strategies.
METHODS…

OBJECTIVES: Tacklers need to decide where to place their head based on the evasive manoeuvres of the ball-carrier and positional relationship with the ball-carrier before tackle. Therefore, it is difficult for tacklers to improve incorrect head placement at the moment of contact. Moreover, the characteristics prior to tackle have a relationship with the tackler's head placement. However, how situations lead to incorrect head placement remains unknown. The aim of this study was to identify pre-contact situations that lead to incorrect head placement by using decision tree analysis.
METHODS: Ta
