Langerhans cell sarcoma (LCS), malignant indeterminate dendritic cell tumor (IDCT), and interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) are rare malignant neoplasms that originate from antigen-presenting conventional dendritic cells (cDCs). These tumors, collectively termed cDC sarcoma in this study, have been reported only rarely in association with myeloid malignancies. We collected five cases of cDC sarcoma coexisting with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic neoplasm with increased blasts (MDS-IB), conducted clinicopathologic and genetic analyses, and compared these with four repo

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare neoplasm that arises from myeloid blasts outside the bone marrow. Diagnosing and treating MS in the breast can be challenging due to its rarity in this location. Clinicians should consider MS when a breast mass is detected to implement appropriate treatment and avoid unnecessary surgery.
CASE DEMONSTRATION: A 25-year-old female with a 2-year history of acute myeloid leukemia and a 1-year history of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation was admitted due to bilateral breast masses present for 1 month. Breast MRI plain scan + enhancement revealed bila

AIM: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare tumour comprising myeloid blasts occurring at an anatomical site other than the bone marrow. We sought to investigate both paediatric and adult patients with MS diagnosed at our institution and determine possible correlations among their clinicopathological, phenotypic, molecular and prognostic features.
METHODS: This study retrospectively evaluated the data of 45 patients diagnosed with MS at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Turkey, over a 17-year period.
RESULTS: The male-to-female ratio was 1.5:1, and the median age was 39.12 years. The most

INTRODUCTION: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare tumor mass. It may occur at any extramedullary anatomic sites but is uncommon in the sinonasal location.MS commonly presents concurrently with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but it may predate AML over several months or years, named isolated MS.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a case of a 15-month-old child who presented with mouth breathing, bilateral rhinorrhea, palpebral edema and proptosis. The routine blood tests were normal for the first few months. Computed tomography scan revealed neoplasm in nasal cavity.
DIAGNOSIS: The patient was definitely

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extremely rare disease, closely correlated to Acute Myeloid Leukamia (AML) and presenting as a tumoral lesion in potentially any anatomic location. It is seen either concomitant with AML, during remission, or more seldom, prior to any detectable haematological abnormality. While MS remains a difficult diagnosis, this rare tumor must be included in the differential diagnosis of atypical, local obstructive abdominal processes, especially when coinciding with a myeloproliferative disorder. We present a case report of an otherwise healthy young patient with small bowel o

Myeloid sarcoma is a type of malignant neoplasm composed of myeloblasts that locates extramedullary. The present study reports the case of a 31-year-old female who presented with upper abdominal pain, melena, vomiting and jaundice. The abdominal computed tomography revealed a mass in gastric antrum area and possible infiltration of the duodenum, gallbladder and head of the pancreas, with possible retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis. The tumor grew quickly and led to serious obstructive jaundice. New masses developed in the bilateral orbits and left breast within 2 months of admission. The pa

Background. Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary neoplasm of immature myeloid cells. Our study reports a presentation of myeloid sarcoma which presented with severe leukemoid reaction as a secondary malignancy in a patient who was treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia previously. The case emphasizes the difficulties in diagnosis of patients who do not have concomitant leukemia. Case Presentation. A 6-year-old girl who was treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia previously presented with fatigue, paleness, and hepatosplenomegaly. Peripheral blood smear and bone marrow aspirate examination d

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the utilization and role of MRI in the management of myeloid sarcoma in adults.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study of 69 patients with pathologically proven myeloid sarcoma included 25 patients (16 men, nine women; mean age, 55 years; range, 22-78 years) who underwent pretreatment MRI at our institution from January 2001 to October 2011. A total of 71 MRI examinations were evaluated by two radiologists in consensus.
RESULTS: A total of 41 sites of involvement of myeloid sarcoma were noted, most commonly bone (13/25, 52%), muscle

Myeloid sarcoma can involve any anatomic site, but involvement of the gynecologic tract is uncommon. We describe 11 women, 17 to 60 years old, with myeloid sarcoma involving the gynecologic tract, including 5 patients in whom myeloid sarcoma presented as an isolated mass. The uterus was the most frequently involved anatomic site, in 8 patients (5 corpus, 3 cervix). Each neoplasm diffusely infiltrated normal structures, and, cytologically 7 tumors were immature, 3 were differentiated, and 1 was blastic. In 9 cases assessed, immunohistochemical stains showed that all neoplasms were positive for

The clinicopathologic review of 33 well-documented cases of granulocytic sarcoma on file in the Registry of Ophthalmic Pathology confirmed the facts that this tumor is encountered mainly in children, that boys are affected more frequently than girls, and that white Americans appear to be less vulnerable than other ethnic groups. While granulocytic sarcoma is a variant of granulocytic leukemia, the tumor may appear before, after, or concomitantly with hematologic evidence of leukemia. In the present series only four of the 33 patients were already known to have leukemia when they were first see

BACKGROUND: Extramedullary leukemia (EML) is common in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and occurs as leukemia cells within the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or as a solid tumor (myeloid sarcoma-MS). The effect of MS on survival is unknown.
METHODS: Patients on CCG protocols 2861, 2891, 2941, and 2961 being treated for AML with intensive-timing chemotherapy were classified for the presence of EML (CSF leukemia, CNS-MS, orbital-MS, or non-CNS MS). CSF leukemia was classified as CNS3 (>5 WBC in the CSF with blasts) and non-CSF leukemia as CNS1/2 (<5 WBC in the CSF with or without blasts). Cha

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary tumor composed of immature myeloid cells. It typically occurs in the context of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) but may also present alongside myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and other myeloid neoplasms. We present the case of a 63-year-old male with no prior hematologic disease who was admitted with right lower limb swelling, initially diagnosed as cellulitis. During hospitalization, he developed multiple soft tissue lesions and progressive normocytic anemia. CT imaging showed multiloculated intramuscular collections. Despite negative blood cultures,

Myeloid cells as a highly heterogeneous subpopulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) are intimately associated with tumor development. Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is characterized by abundant myeloid cell infiltration in the TME. However, the correlation between myeloid signature genes (MSGs) and the prognosis of EWS patients was unclear. In this research, we synthetically characterized the expression of MSGs in a training cohort and classified EWS patients into two subtypes. Immune cell infiltration analysis revealed that MSGs subtypes correlated closely with different immune statuses. Furthermo

RATIONALE: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) involves the proliferation of extramedullary blasts from 1 or more myeloid lineages, replacing the original tissue structures, and these neoplasias are called granulocytic sarcoma, chloroma, or extramedullary myeloid neoplasms. These tumors develop in lymphoid organs, bones, skin, soft tissues, various mucous membranes, organs, and the central nervous system. MS is rare in non-leukemic patients, while MS patient with effusion as the first manifestation is even rare.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We report the case of 44-year-old woman with abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vom
