To extend our studies about phenotypical and functional alterations of G-CSF-induced neutrophils we have evaluated their light-scatter profile, mobilization of intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) and membrane depolarization after stimulation. Ca2+-induced mitochondrial swelling was inhibited by a low concentration of calmodulin antagonists. Two affinities of Ca2+ to mitochondrial swelling were observed: high (2-5 microM) and low (more than 100 microM) systems. The high-affinity change was inhibited by micromolar level of trifluoperazine and W-7, but not by W-5. The possible mechanism of this inhibition and the role of CaM in mitochondria are discussed.

Human glycodelin A (GdA) is a glycoprotein that is highly homologous to bovine beta-lactoglobulin A (beta-LgA) because the amino acid sequences are 50-60% identical. BACKGROUND: A novel radiation protection system has recently been shown to shield the primary operator from scatter radiation, but whether it shields other members of the catheterization laboratory team remains unknown.
METHODS: Radiation exposure data were collected prospectively in 50 coronary angiography cases, in which 25 were completed using standard radiation protection and 25 with a novel system consisting of a series of rigid shields and flexible radiation-resistant drapes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the patient effective dose and scattered dose from recently developed dental mobile equipment in Korea. The MCNPX 2.6 (Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA) was used in a Monte Carlo simulation to calculate both the effective and scattered doses. The MCNPX code was constructed identically as in the general use of equipment and the effective dose and scattered dose were calculated using the KTMAN-2 digital phantom.
