Lateral window sinus elevation technique: managing challenges and complications.

Sinus floor elevation is commonly used in cases where alveolar bone resorption has led to insufficient bone height for the placement of dental implants. Lateral wall sinus elevation is carried out when the bone is severely deficient. Although this procedure has a high rate of success, it may present surgical problems. A description of the anatomy of the maxillary sinus and lateral wall augmentation techniques leads to a discussion of the various challenges and complications that may arise and their management.

Clinical and patient-reported outcomes of tissue engineering strategies for periodontal and peri-implant reconstruction.

Scientific advancements in biomaterials, cellular therapies, and growth factors have brought new therapeutic options for periodontal and per … l approaches for the treatment of infrabony and furcation defects, alveolar ridge preservation, and sinus floor augmentation. Tissue engineering strategies can promote higher root coverage, keratinized tissue width, and gingival thickness gain than scaffolds alone can, and they can often obtain similar mean root coverage compared with autogenous grafts. There is some evid …

Comparison of the use of adipose tissue-derived and bone marrow-derived stem cells for rapid bone regeneration.

Stem cell-based bone tissue engineering has been recognized as a new strategy for maxillary sinus floor elevation. More rapid bone formation may enhance this technique when simultaneous dental implant placement is desired. Adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) are the most well-characterized cell sources for bone regeneration, but comparative studies on the osteogenic potential of these cells have yielded conflicting conclusions. This study aimed to compare the rapid bone formation capacity of ADSCs and BMSCs in a canine sinus floor augmentation model. In…

Immediate loading of dental implant after sinus floor elevation with osteotome technique: a clinical report and preliminary radiographic results.

Edentulous ridges in the posterior maxilla are often compromised by reduced bone volume. This anatomic condition often limits dental implant placement of 10 mm in length without prior or simultaneous sinus augmentation. The osteotome technique is an alternative and conservative technique for sinus floor augmentation and immediate implant placement in the posterior region of the maxillary jaw. According to the relevant literature, the osteotome technique appears to be a predictable and safe method for augmenting bone at the sinus floor and to improve bone density and quality of the implant site…

Evidence of bone formation in the nasal floor around polished surface bi-cortical screw implants after indirect nasal lift in an atrophied maxilla: Cone beam computed tomography-based case report.

Maxillary jaw is restricted superiorly with maxillary sinus in the posterior region and nasal cavity in the anterior region. Augmentation of distal maxilla with recessed maxillary sinus has been documented since, last few decades. Sinus lifts the procedure either through crestal or lateral approach proves to be an effective way for augmenting bone for the placement of dental implants in atrophied posterior maxilla. However, when it comes to vertically deficient anterior maxilla, lifting of the nasal membrane is not considered. Perhaps, recent studies have shown greater success of dental implan
