We determined the time course of the distribution of total mercury in the brain after the lateral ventricular single injection of methylmercury (Me-Hg) and glutathione (GSH) to confirm our assumption that glutathione have a very important role in methylmercury transport into the brain. Urine is separated by reversed-phase HPLC and metal-species are detected on-line by flame-AAS (Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu and Fe) or by ETAAS in fractions (Pb, Cd, Sn). With the exception of lead, which is present in urine in two forms (bound to chloride and to sulfate), all the metals are present as chlorides or chloro-complexes. The same results are found for two control urines. It is shown that addition of some drugs to urine (Ca-EDTA, tetracycline and barbiturate) alters the distribution of metal-species by formation of coordination compounds.

Calcium-deficient carbonate apatites in urinary calculi from 17 patients have been studied. Magnesium ions in each case were detected as a component of apatite. In most of the cases, CO23- ions were included in the apatitic lattice. Using a calcination procedure, we have determined the most probable average value for the CO23- content, degree of deficiency, x, and the Mg/Ca ratio in each sample.

In this study, an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy method was developed to determine the Al in rats' tissue (liver, kidneys and testicles). The Mg II (280.270 nm)/Mg I (285.213 nm) ratio was used to achieve plasma robustness. The method was validated by detection and quantification limit, accuracy, precision, linearity and recovery.
