PURPOSE: To evaluate vitrectomy for diabetic macular edema (DME) in eyes with at least moderate vision loss and vitreomacular traction.
DESIGN: Prospective cohort study.
PARTICIPANTS: The primary cohort included 87 eyes with DME and vitreomacular traction based on investigator's evaluation, visual acuity 20/63-20/400, optical coherence tomography (OCT) central subfield >300 microns and no concomitant cataract extraction at the time of vitrectomy.

Basal fractures of the middle phalanx are uncommon, but difficult to treat. We have reviewed our first 20 patients using the Suzuki pins and rubber traction who were treated during an 8.5 year period (June 1998-December 2006) and 18 who were reviewed after 49 (range 17-116) months. All injuries were closed fractures of the base of the middle phalanx. Ten patients had a fracture of the volar lip and dorsal subluxation of the phalanx, one had a fracture of the dorsal lip, and seven had comminuted pilon fractures. BACKGROUND: In vitreomacular traction syndrome, an incomplete vitreous detachment with persistent vitreous traction on the macula is present. This condition may determine formation of epiretinal membranes, macular puckering, macular oedema, and traction macular detachment. BACKGROUND: Loop electosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) of the transformation zone has become the preferred treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).
CASE: An inadvertent vesicovaginal laceration occurred during LEEP of CIN2 in a 57-year-old-woman with a cystocele. We developed a traction suture of the cervix that we used during LEEP that permits manipulation of the cervix outward, away from the nearby protruding tissues.
CONCLUSION: Traction suture during LEEP may reduce inadvertent lacerations in patients with cystocele, rectocele, and other protruding tissues.

BACKGROUND: The aim of our study was to evaluate the difficulty in emotion regulation, depression and anxiety levels of mothers with a child diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared to mothers of the non- T1DM control group.
METHODS: Our study included 72 adolescents followed up with T1DM and 72 healthy adolescents and their mothers. Psychiatric evaluation of children was performed according to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria. All mothers were administered the `Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Brief Form (DERS-16)` and the `Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HAD)`.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate pathologic features of vitreomacular traction syndrome (VMT).
METHODS: Preretinal membranes removed from five patients during vitreous surgery for VMT syndrome were evaluated by electron microscopy (n = 4) and immunohistochemistry (n = 1).

To define the current application of preliminary traction for congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH), 335 members of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society were surveyed, with an 87% response rate. A simple method of skeletal traction is described to facilitate management of complicated multiple fractures of the metatarsals following crush injuries of the foot. The system uses Brock's pins and a modified Nissen loop to achieve either balanced traction or fixed traction.
