The Chromatographic behaviour of nanogram amounts of antimony in ethyl ether medium was studied by radioisotope techniques on cellobiose, cellulose and seven substituted celluloses. It was found that antimony is strongly retained and can be separated from macro amounts of manganese, iron, gold, uranium, mercury, arsenic and several other metals. Antimony could be quantitatively recovered by elution from natural cellulose and cellobiose. The method can be applied in several analytical problems concerning the separation of traces of antimony.

The long-term effects of low-dose radiation exposure are a topic that has been lightly touched on in medical literature. We present a case of a 66-year-old male, who grew up near uranium mines, with several pathologies that are believed to be well explained by his chronic exposure to low-dose radiation. We postulate that screening for etiologies with known associations with radiation may help avoid long-term complications in at-risk populations.

A novel and rapid method is introduced for determining thorium (Th) and uranium (U) concentrations in archaeological lead and related compounds to be used in astroparticle physic. This method involves chromatographic pre-concentration and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Combined data from mass spectrometry and gamma-ray spectrometry measurements are presented. Excellent results were achieved in terms of reliability and sensitivity (ngˑkg-1), even without introducing Th and U isotopes as tracers.
