Acceptability of a proposed new tuberculosis vaccine among people deprived of liberty in Brazil.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) persists as a global threat, with unequal burden across populations. New TB vaccines are in development, and people deprived of liberty (PDL) represent a vulnerable group that may benefit from vaccination. This study evaluated acceptability of a hypothetical new TB vaccine and factors associated with hesitancy among PDL in Brazil. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional study among PDL in six male and two female prison units from April 2025 to October 2025. From each unit,130 PDL were randomized to be evaluated through a structured questionnaire about sociodemogr

Influence of the COVID-19 pandemic and social media on the behaviour of pregnant and lactating women towards vaccination: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Pregnant women, foetuses and infants are at risk of infectious disease-related complications. Maternal vaccination is a strategy developed to better protect pregnant women and their offspring against infectious disease-related morbidity and mortality. Vaccines against influenza, pertussis and recently also COVID-19 are widely recommended for pregnant women. Yet, there is still a significant amount of hesitation towards maternal vaccination policies. Furthermore, contradictory messages circulating social media impact vaccine confidence. OBJECTIVES: This scoping review aims to revea

Patient reaction to Tdap vaccination in pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: The current obstetrical recommendation is to routinely administer the tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination during every pregnancy regardless of a patient's prior history. There are minimal data that have prospectively evaluated solicited patient response to this treatment plan. The study objective was to evaluate patient reaction following receipt of Tdap vaccination during pregnancy. METHODS: This was a prospective observational study conducted from May 2014 through March 2016. The study design involved solicited patient reaction within 1-7days after th

Phase I clinical study of a peptide vaccination for hepatitis C virus-infected patients with different human leukocyte antigen-class I-A alleles.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has a high risk of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma at later stages. We recently identified a peptide derived from the HCV core protein capable of inducing both cellular and humoral responses to nearly all HCV-positive patients in Japan with different human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-class I-A alleles. To assess the safety and immune responses to this novel peptide, we conducted a phase I dose-escalation study of the vaccination for 26 HCV-positive patients who were either non-responders to the interferon-based therapy (n = 23) or refused it (n = 3).

Predicting parents' decisions on MMR immunisation: a mixed method investigation.

BACKGROUND: Increasing uptake rates for MMR vaccination requires an understanding of factors leading parents to decide for and against vaccination, particularly in the light of recent developments. OBJECTIVE: We investigated factors relevant to immunising and non-immunising parents and the extent to which these factors predicted their decisions. METHODS: The study was conducted in Edinburgh, UK. A two-stage mixed method design was used. Delphi technique elicited parents' views of factors relevant to MMR immunisation. Twenty-six factors identified as relevant were incorporated into a final qu

Polio vaccination coverage and seroprevalence of poliovirus antibodies after the introduction of inactivated poliovirus vaccines for routine immunization in Japan.

In Japan, the oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) was changed to 2 types of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV), the standalone conventional IPV (cIPV) and the Sabin-derived IPV combined with diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccine (DTaP-sIPV), for routine immunization in 2012. We evaluated polio vaccination coverage and the seroprevalence of poliovirus antibodies using data from the National Epidemiological Surveillance of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (NESVPD) from 2011 to 2015. Several years before the introduction of IPV in 2012, OPV administration for children was refused by some parents

Measles, mumps and rubella infections and atopic disorders in MMR-unvaccinated and MMR-vaccinated children.

Vaccinations have been incriminated in the increase of atopic disorders. Especially the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination is often refused by people having a notion that these infectious diseases are beneficial for a healthy development of a child's immune system. This practice endangers herd immunity and is the cause of repeated outbreaks. As the clinical course of infections and also its possible impact on the development of atopy may be different in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, we explored in vaccinated and unvaccinated children associations of MMR infection with atopic di

[Results of neonatal vaccination against hepatitis B in Frosinone].

Neonates born to HBSAg-positive mothers are at increased risk of HBV, mainly because of perinatal exposure. Since 1985 the HBV Regional prevention and control program of Latium recommends prophylaxis both with HBIG and HBV vaccine at birth for all infants born to HBaAg-positive mothers. From 1-1-80 to 1-5-88 89 neonates (52 males, 37 female) from Local Health Units (U.S.L.) FR 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 have been examined at the Centre for Vaccination against HBV of Frosinone. Prophylaxis was accomplished both by HBIG 1 ml. I.M.) at birth and HBV vaccine (5.5 ml. I.M. of HBVAX) at birth, and at 1

Comparison of the serological responses in pigs after oral vaccination against classical swine fever using two different types of bait.

As a complementary tool for control of classical swine fever (CSF) in wild boar vaccine baits containing the attenuated and highly efficacious C-strain have been distributed in several countries. Several issues have been identified with the present available bait system, like relatively low uptake by piglets, melting point and mechanical stability. Hence, an alternative bait system has been developed including a more thermo-stable bait matrix and vaccine container. In the present study, the attractiveness and the capability of inducing an adequate immune response of this new bait system (IP) w

Court-ordered immunisations: a review of the issues.

Following an outbreak of measles in Swansea in 2013, the U.K. courts were asked to order the immunisation of children after an unresolved dispute over the merits of the vaccination between the parents of two children. This article reviews the involvement and approach of the courts in cases of hotly disputed immunisation and argues that going to litigation and obtaining a court order is no guarantee that the vaccination will be given to the child.
