Nonspecific vaginitis causes diagnostic as well as therapeutic difficulties in gynecological private practice. In a study in 63 patients with "nonspecific" vaginitis, clinical parameters were related to the bacteriological isolation of G. vaginalis in order to try to find criteria which can help to make a correct diagnosis of "nonspecific vaginitis". These patients were treated with three different regimens of metronidazole, either 2000 mg as a single dose, or two single doses of 2000 mg each taken the first and the third day, or 400 mg 2 times daily for 7 days. Patients with Candida or Tricho…

Introduction. Molecular assays such as the Hologic Aptima® Vaginitis Panel and Seegene Allplex™ Vaginitis assay offer improved sensitivity and multiplex detection for the diagnosis of vaginitis compared with the non-molecular standard of care.Gap Statement. Evidence comparing the relative performance of Aptima versus Seegene is limited, as is knowledge of Aptima's compatibility with non-proprietary swabs.Aim. This prospective study assessed the diagnostic performance of the Aptima BV (bacterial vaginosis) and Aptima CV/TV assays (Candida vaginitis/Trichomonas vaginitis) alongside the Seegene A…

Vaginal washing is a common practice associated with adverse outcomes including bacterial vaginosis (BV) and HIV infection. Prior studies have not examined the associations between vaginal washing and individual vaginal bacteria, or whether these associations are independent of the effect of vaginal washing on BV. The purpose of this study was to characterize the association between vaginal washing and the presence and concentrations of vaginal bacteria associated with optimal and sub-optimal vaginal states. The analysis utilized data from participants in the placebo arm of the Preventing Vagi

BACKGROUND: Sarcoma botryoides is a variant of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with cure rates exceeding 90%. Vaginal presentation is rare and treatment includes chemotherapy and local radiation. Sequelae of vaginal radiation in this age group have not been well defined. However, vaginal stenosis is a known result of pelvic radiation in adult women with vaginal dilation as the primary method of prevention and treatment.
CASE: An 18-month-old child was diagnosed with vaginal rhabdomyosarcoma and underwent chemotherapy and vaginal brachytherapy radiation treatment. Six weeks after completion of radi

OBJECTIVE: The objective was to evaluate the feasibility and complication rate of vaginal hysterectomy with or without adnexectomy in women with enlarged uteri and/or other considered contraindications to the vaginal route.
STUDY DESIGN: Over a period of 2 years, a total of 204 women underwent vaginal hysterectomy for benign pathology. Normally considered contraindications to the vaginal route were: moderate to excessive uterine enlargement, nulliparity or no prior vaginal delivery, previous cesarean or pelvic surgeries and adnexal pathologies. Laparoscopy was used only if it became necessary

OBJECTIVES: To describe an uncommon case of congenital atresia of the vagina associated with vesico-urethro-vaginal fistula caused by violent coitus.
METHODS/RESULTS: We report on a patient who was unaware she had the Rokitanski-Mayer-Kuster-Hauser syndrome when she had her first sexual intercourse which caused partial destruction of the urethra and bladder neck, resulting in complete incontinence. The different surgical procedures performed to recovery urinary continence and the creation of a viable vaginal tunnel are described.
CONCLUSIONS: Congenital atresia of the vagina is uncommon. To
