OBJECTIVE: To estimate the effect of prolonged serous retinal detachment (SRD) during the waiting period for photodynamic therapy (PDT) on clinical outcomes in patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC).

AIMS: To report on the use of multi-dose photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment of posterior uveal melanoma.
METHODS: Prospective case series. 18 patients with posterior uveal melanoma were treated with a minimum of three sessions of PDT. Mean tumour thickness was 1.92 mm (median 1.75, range 0.5-4.4 mm) while the mean basal diameter was 7.1 mm (median 6.3, range 5.2-11 mm). BACKGROUND: Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is characterised by a serous detachment of the neurosensory retina in the macula. Chronic CSC tends to affect older individuals with a less favourable visual outcome. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin is a possible therapeutic approach in cases of CSC with no tendency for spontaneous resorption. BACKGROUND: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been used occasionally as an alternative treatment for uveal melanomas. The present study describes the clinical and histopathologic features of five choroidal melanomas after PDT.
METHODS: Three patients with pigmented choroidal melanomas were treated with PDT and intravitreal bevacizumab 1 week before undergoing biopsy and brachytherapy to minimize the risks of bleeding during the biopsy.
