BACKGROUND: To evaluate outcome differences in open surgical and endovascular treatment of traumatic aortic rupture (TAR) over a period of 30 years.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the diagnostic workup and management of all patients and compared outcome before and since the era of endovascular therapy.

Chronic beryllium disease (CBD) is a rare disease characterized by diffuse interstitial pulmonary granulomatosis. We report a case of CBD which exhibited marked improvement both subjectively and objectively following pulse therapy. The patient was a 36-year-old man whose chief complaint was dyspnea and a dry cough. Since July 1990, the patient had been working in the development of an automatic or mechanical technique for producing beryllium-copper alloy. It appeared likely that the patient may have been exposed to metal beryllium fumes generated from an opening located just above the furnace.

It is recommended to evaluate the presence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) before initiating antitumor necrosis factor alpha (anti-TNF) therapy for rheumatologic diseases. We aimed to present the follow-up results of 192 patients with rheumatologic diseases before anti-TNF therapy for LTBI. We enrolled 192 patients who were given anti-TNF therapy for their rheumatologic diseases between April 2005 and January 2008. The demographic characteristics of the patients were recorded. Chest X-ray was obtained and tuberculin skin test (TST) was performed in all patients before anti-TNF therapy.

A 29-year-old woman with anorexia nervosa was admitted because of an episode of severe and persistent hypoglycemia. Chest X-ray showed multiple cavitary lesions and subsequent sputum culture revealed heavy growth of Aspergillus niger. In spite of intensive antimicrobial and supportive therapy, the patient died of respiratory failure and cardiovascular collapse. The potential relationships between anorexia nervosa, hypoglycemia, and infection are discussed.

Persistent multiple pulmonary nodules were observed on the chest X ray of a nonimmunocompromised woman 6 months after she was treated with acyclovir for a varicella-related myelitis without respiratory symptoms. Early antiviral therapy given for varicella infections might decrease the intensity of clinical symptoms without actually preventing the occurrence of varicella-zoster virus-related lesions such as the persistent pulmonary nodules reported here.

Transit times and distribution modalities of an oily mixture used as a vehicle for drugs administered by rectal perfusion in topical therapy in patients with uncomplicated diverticulitis of the colon have been examined. X-ray study makes it possible to state that the technique is mainly indicated in descending colon and sigmoid localisations, segments in which the oily mixture distributes homogeneously and massively in all patients treated.

Tumor blood-brain transfer constant of iopamidol (K) and plasma volume (Vp) were measured in 10 patients with primary brain tumors before and after 7 days of dexamethasone treatment (4 x 4 mg per oral per day) using X-ray computed tomography. Both K and Vp decreased significantly after dexamethasone treatment with p < 0.01 and 0.09 respectively according to one-tail paired t-test. Pseudo-gout or calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition disease (CPPD) is mainly a disease of the elderly. Diagnosis is obtained by identyfication of calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystals in the synovial fluid. Typical X-ray result is chondrocalcinosis (CC) mostly of the knee. CPPD is most frequently asymptomatic and not requires medical therapy. Treatment of acute form of desease is usualy joint aspiration and intra-articular injection.

The rare case of a 63-year-old male diagnosed with pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis coli is presented and discussed. The patient was found to have an unsymptomatic pneumoperitoneum on plain chest x-ray. The results of a contrast enema, computed tomography scan, and laparoscopy are presented. Treatment of adults with gonadotropin releasing hormone analogs has resulted in rapid loss in bone mineral density (BMD). We measured lumbar and femoral neck BMD by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry during 2 years of depot leuprolide therapy in 13 girls (mean age, 7.5 years; mean bone age, 10.9 years). At baseline, BMD was elevated for age and concordant with the advanced skeletal age. During therapy with gonadotropin releasing hormone analog, BMD values increased and BMD standard deviation scores for age and skeletal age did not change.

In a case of actinomycotic mycetoma caused by Streptomyces madurae with extensive destruction of the bone, the foot was saved from amputation by appropriate antibiotic therapy given for a period of 2 1/2 years. Periodic x-ray examinations gave a valuable guide to the progress of the patient. Chemotherapy and antibiotics play an important role in the present day management of mycetoma. Cutaneous amelioration is not the criteria for cure. The bone restoration that occurs much later should be the guide for the duration of therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical characteristics and changes of pulmonary imaging of mineral oil aspiration pneumonia in children.
METHOD: The clinical features, CT findings, and effects of corticosteroid therapy were analyzed in 16 children with mineral oil aspiration pneumonia, who were hospitalized in our hospital from January 2003 to July 2013.
