SW-VEI-Net: A Physics-Informed Deep Neural Network for Shear Wave Viscoelasticity Imaging.

Quantitative viscoelasticity imaging via shear wave elastography (SWE) remains challenging due to complex wave physics and limitations of conventional reconstruction methods. To address this, we present SW-VEI-Net, a physics-informed neural network (PINN) that simultaneously reconstructs the shear elastic modulus and viscous modulus by integrating viscoelastic wave equations into a dual-network architecture. The framework employs a dual-loss function to balance data fidelity and physics-based regularization, significantly reducing reliance on empirical data while improving interpretability. Ex

Multi-View Hilbert Curve-Based Hierarchical Information Aggregation for Incomplete Multimodal Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis.

Timely identification of Alzheimer's disease (AD) benefits from combining neuroimaging, fluid biomarkers, and cognitive assessments, yet in practice one or more modalities are often unavailable due to various factors such as cost, patient compliance, and procedural risks. Furthermore, conventional convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures and even Transformer-based models struggle to efficiently capture both local and global dependencies, especially when dealing with high-dimensional and highly heterogeneous medical data. In this study, we introduce a novel hierarchical information aggr

Machine learning model MASKRCNN_RESNET50_FPN in image segmentation for the detection of the long head of biceps in arthroscopy images.

ObjectiveSurgical decision-making during arthroscopic procedures often relies on the subjective visual assessment of tissue morphology, particularly the redness of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHB), which serves as an indicator for potential surgical intervention. This subjectivity introduces variability across clinicians, underscoring the need for objective, data-driven methods. The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of applying the MASKRCNN_RESNET50_FPN deep learning model for automated segmentation of the LHB in arthroscopic images, thereby converting subjective visual a

Scalable, generalizable and uncertainty-aware integration of spatial multiomics across diverse modalities and platforms with SCIGMA.

Recent advances in spatial omics technologies have enabled simultaneous profiling of transcriptomic, proteomic, epigenomic, metabolomic and imaging data at high spatial resolution, offering unprecedented opportunities to dissect tissue complexity. However, integrating these diverse and large-scale spatial multimodal datasets remains a major computational challenge. We present SCIGMA, a scalable and generalizable deep learning framework for spatial multiomics integration. SCIGMA introduces an uncertainty-aware contrastive learning objective and multiview graph neural networks to preserve modali

An automated high-resolution screening platform identifies regulators of anchor cell invasion in C. elegans.

Microfluidic devices are valuable tools for live imaging. However, widespread adoption of microfluidic-based screening methods has been limited by the complexity of the existing techniques. Here, we introduce a user-friendly, high-throughput, and high-resolution automated imaging system for C. elegans. We demonstrate the system's capabilities in an RNA interference (RNAi) screen, combined with neural network-based phenotypic scoring. We evaluated the effects of RNAi targeting 193 candidate genes on anchor cell (AC) invasion, a model for basement membrane (BM) breaching that shares similarities

An object-based framework for identifying moldy corn using hyperspectral images.

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI), leveraging its non-destructive and rapid detection capabilities, has become a pivotal technology for mold detection of corn and other grains. Currently, prevalent methodologies for grain mold detection are broadly classified into pixel-based (PB) and kernel-based (KB) methods, but both have inherent limitations. PB methods depend only on spectral data for mold identification, ignoring spatial features and causing misclassifications of substances with similar spectra. KB methods extract overall kernel features to detect mold but overlook fine-grained corn characteri

Genetic algorithm combined with back-propagation artificial neural network (GA-BP-ANN) to optimize ultrahigh pressure Actinidia arguta juice sterilization conditions to extend shelf life.

In this study, response surface methodology and GA-BP-ANN model were used to optimize the process conditions for ultrahigh pressure (UHP) killing of E. coli in Actinidia arguta juice. The results showed that the GA-BP artificial neural network model predicted the optimal UHP sterilization conditions (holding time 17 min, 350 MPa, and 2 times) with an E. coli death order of magnitude of 7.56. Both UHP and pasteurization had better sterilizing efficacy and mitigated the changes in pH and TSS values of the juice during storage. UHP sterilization preserved the polyphenols, flavonoids and ascorbic

Retinal neovascularization detection from fundus images using deformable attention ResNet and swarm-hiking optimization.

BACKGROUND: In the detection of retinal neovascularization (RNV) from fundus images, defining anatomically consistent perivascular regions is challenging due to asymmetric retinal tissue deformation caused by abnormal vessel proliferation in RNV, leading to inaccurate extraction of pathological features. Moreover, early pathological changes in perivascular zones are minute and blend with normal tissue variability, while existing models focused on global retinal features tend to miss these localized abnormalities, resulting in reduced detection accuracy. METHODS: A novel deep learning (DL) fra

On the transfer learning behavior of domain-specific vision-language models in screening mammography.

Vision-Language models have shown remarkable performance for natural images and text. Given the homology of the anatomy, high gray-scale image dimension, and the unbalanced datasets, the traditional VLMs do not adapt well to radiological applications. In this work, we empirically adapted image encoder trained within domain-specific VLMs to be applied in two downstream tasks for 2D mammogram image analysis: tissue density estimation and BI-RADS prediction. We study the transfer learning behavior using linear probing, fine-tuning, and online self distillation. We analyze that knowledge driven do

Multilabel prediction of virus target proteins via multimodal graph representation learning.

Identification of virus target proteins (VTPs) is crucial for understanding viral pathogenesis. Existing computational studies have addressed this issue by predicting host-virus protein interactions, typically framed as a single-label problem. However, targets can be identified using only intrinsic information of host proteins. Moreover, a host protein may participate in the infection processes of multiple viruses, a scenario that can be treated as a multilabel prediction problem. Herein, we present MultiVTP, a multilabel framework for VTP prediction that employs graph learning with multimodal

Bimetallic FeCu-N-C Single-Atom Nanozymes with Triple Enzymatic Activities Enabling a Colorimetric Sensor Array for Machine-Learning-Assisted Pesticide Discrimination.

Herein, by formamide self-condensation, an innovative Fe-Cu dual-atom nanozyme (FeCu-N-C) is presented, engineered with adjacent metal sites within a nitrogen-doped carbon scaffold, that exhibits synergistically enhanced peroxidase-, oxidase-, and laccase-like activities. This multienzymatic performance far exceeds that of single-atom Fe-N-C and Cu-N-C controls. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the proximity of Cu sites induces an upshift in the Fe d-band center from -1.52 eV to -0.88 eV, optimizing substrate adsorption and providing a mechanistic rationale for the obse

Real time prediction of instantaneous wave-free ratio based on lumped parameter and neural network models.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The Instantaneous wave-Free Ratio (iFR) is considered a potential alternative to Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, as it does not require vasodilator administration. Nonetheless, its clinical use is similarly restricted by the need for invasive measurement. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a non-invasive method for calculating iFR, in order to enable rapid and non-invasive diagnosis of myocardial ischemia. METHODS: We propose a physical framework, termed the Lumped Parameter-Neural Network (LPNN), that combines a

PURPOSE: Cystoscopy is a crucial diagnostic tool in urology for the detection and evaluation of bladder lesions. However, its diagnostic accuracy (ACC) is highly dependent on the operator's experience, which can lead to significant interobserver variability. To address these challenges, this study develops and evaluates two deep learning-based systems for automated cystoscopic image analysis. These systems aim to enhance diagnostic efficiency in clinical settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We collected 9362 bladder tumor, cystitis, and postoperative scar images from 2056 examinations for the dat

Multimodal transformer-enhanced deep learning for accurate assessment of mandibular third molar-inferior alveolar canal contact using panoramic radiography and CBCT slices.

BACKGROUND: Accurate preoperative assessment of the spatial relationship between mandibular third molars (M3Ms) and the inferior alveolar canal (IAC) is essential to minimize the risk of nerve injury. While panoramic radiographs (PRs) are routinely used as a first-line modality, their two-dimensional nature limits diagnostic reliability, often necessitating confirmatory cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: We developed a dual-stream, transformer-enhanced multimodal (panoramic radiography + selected CBCT slices) deep learning framework designed as a clinician-in-the-loop system. The

Beyond complex architectures: a streamlined CNN pipeline for robust Alzheimer's disease classification from brain MRI.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Alzheimer's disease, a common type of dementia, gradually steals memories and impacts daily life as brain cells deteriorate. We explored how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could help spot early signs of Alzheimer's using MRI brain scans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study focused on a deep learning approach, specifically a convolutional neural network (CNN), to distinguish between Alzheimer's, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and healthy individuals. We used two well-known datasets, OASIS and ADNI, for this work. After carefully preparing the ADNI data (which included 21,3

Multi-Class Arrhythmia Detection from PPG Signals Based on VGG-BiLSTM Hybrid Deep Learning Model.

Arrhythmia is a common and potentially life-threatening cardiovascular condition. Photoplethysmography (PPG) has emerged as a noninvasive alternative to electrocardiography for cardiac rhythm monitoring, yet most PPG-based methods remain limited to binary classification. In this study, a new deep learning approach is suggested for categorizing six arrhythmia types from PPG data: sinus rhythm (SR), premature ventricular contraction (PVC), premature atrial contraction (PAC), ventricular tachycardia (VT), supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), and atrial fibrillation (AF). The raw PPG signal is enha

A deep learning framework for species-level identification of root-knot nematodes using perineal pattern images.

The use of machine learning is an emerging approach in precision agriculture, including pest identification, disease diagnostics, and soil health monitoring. Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are a key group of soil-dwelling metazoans that cause plant diseases and lead to significant yield losses in major crops. Identification of these nematodes is essential for pest management. Manual identification of large samples is time-consuming, labour-intensive, and subject to inter- and intra-rater variations, which may affect the consistency and reliability of results. Moreover, the number of sk
