BACKGROUND: Since the widespread use of mammography, the incidence of ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast has increased. Until few years ago the standard treatment was mastectomy, however, from the analysis of conservative treatment trials for invasive carcinoma, it was evident that ductal carcinoma in situ could also be treated conservatively. This was confirmed later by randomized trials.

We report a 23 years old male admitted to the hospital after a fall from a great altitude with severe trauma. During the second week of hospitalization he presented a severe nosebleed that did not respond to conventional tamponade. A selective angiography was performed and the branches of the internal maxillary artery were embolized in two occasions, stopping the bleeding. The patient was discharged from the hospital after 71 days of hospitalization.

Death due to rupture of and abdominal aortic or iliac aneurysm, is their most frequent complication. We report two male patients, both over seventy years old, who presented with unexplained unilateral ilio-femoral deep vein thrombosis. During diagnostic work up an aortic and iliac aneurysm, compressing the deep venous system with secondary thrombosis, was found. We report four diabetic patients (one male) aged 64, 63, 61 and 77 years old with rhinocerebral mucormycosis. Three had an acute and one a chronic form of the disease. The chronic form was diagnosed with a biopsy of the nasal cavity. Three patients received amphotericin but all died. The diagnosis of the disease must be suspected in diabetics or patients with some type of immune depression.
