We report a 26 years old female with a Cerebral Palsy as a consequence of a perinatal vascular accident. She was admitted in August 1996 with a left hemiplegia due to a right M1 median artery thrombotic occlusion, as demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging angiography. Transesophagical bi-dimensional echocardiography showed a right atrial myxoma and ruled out the persistence of an oval foramen. Optic neuromyelitis is characterized by simultaneous or successive necrotizing lesions involving the optic nerves and the spinal cord. BACKGROUND: Porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) is due to a partial defect of hepatic uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase (URO-D). In the hereditary form, both hepatic and erythrocytic enzymes are altered, whereas in the acquired form, only the hepatic enzyme fails. There is a high prevalence of hepatitis C virus infection in patients with PCT, specially in those without family history of the disease.
AIM: To study erythrocytic URO-D activity in order to find out whether hepatitis C virus infection is associated to the acquired form of PCT or unveils an inactive hereditary form.

Primary malignant lymphomas of the bladder are infrequent. We report a 70 year old woman presenting with hematuria, dysuria, malaise and a 5 kg weight loss. Pelvic ultrasound examination showed a 8 x 8 x 8 cm solid and cystic mass adjacent to the bladder and uterus. Cystoscopic biopsy disclosed a low grade B cell non Hodgkin lymphoma. She was treated with 6 cycles of chemotherapy with disappearance of the mass. Two years after admission, the patient is free of disease.

A lateral abdominal bruit is considered an important finding for the detection of renovascular hypertension. However, the precision and accuracy of new techniques such as angiography, Doppler ultrasound and studies with radioisotopes have changed its value and clinical interpretation. We report a 75 years old woman with a bilateral renal artery stenosis in whom a bruit was heard over the artery that did not contribute to the genesis of hypertension and the significant arterial stenosis causing hypertension was silent.
