INTRODUCTION: Approximately 30% of patients with renal cell cancer (RCC) develop bone metastasis causing skeletal-related events (SRE): pathologic fracture, spinal cord compression, surgery to bone and radiotherapy. Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), a side-effect of bisphosphonate therapy, is characterized by exposed bone that fails to heal within eight weeks.
