This study aimed at evaluating the results of emergent endoscopic permanent vocal cord lateralization instead of tracheotomy in patients with bilateral vocal cord paralysis who were admitted to the emergency service. Retrospective analysis was done of 13 patients with bilateral vocal cord paralysis admitted to emergency service with severe dyspnea. Patient information, paralysis etiology, operation times and follow-up data were reviewed. We developed two spatial tasks for rats employing computer monitor for stimuli presentation. Both tasks were aimed for testing rats' ability to recognize position of a distant object. In the first task the object was stationary except moments when it jumped from one position to another. In the second task it moved continuously across the screen. Rats were trained in an operant chamber located in front of the monitor. They responded to the object position by pressing a lever for food reward. PURPOSE: We evaluate the long-term outcome of the Gittes procedure for urinary stress incontinence.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 87 women with proved genuine stress incontinence were treated with the Gittes procedure. The same urologist performed 95 consecutive operations during an 8-year period. Patients were evaluated by a postal questionnaire.

Foreign bodies in the foot can remain silent for years before presentation. We describe two foreign body infections in the feet of two patients more than 18 years after the initial insult. These cases emphasize the need for careful evaluation of patients with an unexplained infection in the foot, and thorough debridement, when surgical treatment is necessary.

Rats were trained for 1,345 spatial nonmatching-to-sample (NMTS) trials, matched, assigned to pyrithiamine-induced thiamine deficiency (PTD) or control treatments, recovered, and re-tested for 400 trials of NMTS.
