Audio-Visual Automatic Speech Recognition Towards Education for Disabilities.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Education is a fundamental right that enriches everyone's life. However, physically challenged people often debar from the general and advanced education system. Audio-Visual Automatic Speech Recognition (AV-ASR) based system is useful to improve the education of physically challenged people by providing hands-free computing. They can communicate to the learning system through AV-ASR. However, it is challenging to trace the lip correctly for visual modality. Thus, this paper addresses the appearance-based visual feature along with the co-occurrence statistical measure for visual speech recogni

Arterial air emboli on computed tomography (CT) autopsy.

OBJECTIVE: To describe radiological appearances of systemic air emboli versus intravascular air from putrefaction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The hospital trauma database was searched for patients who underwent computed tomography (CT) autopsy. The studies were reviewed and evaluated for intravascular gas. The appearances and location of intravascular air were characterised. RESULTS: Four cases of intravascular gas were identified out of 15 cases of CT autopsy performed from March 2004 to December 2006. In three cases, intravascular air was predominantly in the arterial system, coupled with seve

One-stage pulmonary nodule detection using 3-D DCNN with feature fusion and attention mechanism in CT image.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death in the world. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is a widely used modality in lung cancer detection. The nodule is an abnormal tissue and may evolve into lung cancer. Hence, it is crucial to detect nodules in the early detection stage. However, reviewing the LDCT scans to observe suspicious nodules is a time-consuming task. Recently, designing a computer-aided detection (CADe) system with convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture has been proven that it is helpful for radiologists. Hence, in this stud

A comparison of traveling wave properties in minimal and biophysically detailed models of cardiac tissue using a novel software tool.

Models of cardiac tissue span a wide range of complexity, from minimal models to biophysically detailed models. It is often assumed that minimal models accurately capture the core behaviors of propagating action potentials in biophysically detailed models. However, it remains unclear whether additional physiological detail introduces qualitatively new behaviors. Dispersion relations quantify the existence, stability, and bifurcations of traveling waves, but their computation for biophysically detailed models has been limited by system complexity and computational cost. To overcome these challe

From Prediction to Decision Making: PBPK and QSP as Regulatory-Grade NAMs.

New approach methodologies (NAMs) encompass a diverse and rapidly evolving set of experimental and computational tools designed to generate human-relevant mechanistic data for use in drug development and regulatory decision making. Experimental NAMs provide insights into drug disposition, pharmacological activity, and disease biology that are difficult or impossible to obtain from traditional animal-based models. Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) and quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) models represent a complementary class of computational NAMs. Together, experimental and compu

Understanding Air in the Body: A Radiologic Perspective on Emphysematous and Traumatic Conditions.

BACKGROUND: Abnormal collections of air within body tissues and anatomical compartments, although relatively uncommon, represent critical radiologic findings. The causative factors vary from invasive infections by gas-forming organisms to traumatic and iatrogenic breaches of tissue planes. Early and accurate radiologic identification is essential, as delayed diagnosis may result in significant morbidity and mortality. The study objective is to describe the spectrum of computed tomography (CT) imaging features, etiopathogenesis, and clinical significance of some emphysematous infections, includ

A Structurally Optimized and Efficient Lightweight Object Detection Model for Autonomous Driving.

Object detection plays a pivotal role in safety-critical applications, including autonomous driving, intelligent surveillance, and unmanned aerial systems. However, many state-of-the-art detectors remain highly resource-intensive; their large parameter sizes and substantial floating-point operations make it difficult to balance accuracy and efficiency, particularly under constrained computational budgets. To mitigate this accuracy-efficiency trade-off, we propose FE-YOLOv8, a lightweight yet more effective variant of YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once version 8). Specifically, two architectural refine

Prevalence of Incidentally Detected Vascular Compressions in Abdominal Computed Tomography.

BACKGROUND: Abdominopelvic vascular structures are exposed to be compressed by adjacent organs or might cause compression of the adjacent hollow viscera. Most of these conditions are asymptomatic and they are detected on imaging incidentally. However, when they are symptomatic, they can lead to a variety of uncommon syndromes in the abdomen and pelvis. Aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of incidental abdominopelvic vascular compressions on computed tomography. METHOD: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted. All the CT was performed using 64 slice machine. All computed

Patterns of splenic arterial enhancement on computed tomography scan are related to portal venous hypertension.

OBJECTIVES: We have previously shown that patterns of splenic arterial enhancement on computed tomography scan change following liver transplantation. We suggested that this is related to changes in portal venous pressure. The aim of this study was to see if similar patterns occur in patients with and without portal hypertension and in patients before and after portal systemic shunts (transjugular portosystemic shunts). METHODS: We evaluated contrast enhanced computed tomography scans in patients being evaluated for liver disease and compared those from patients with and without portal hypert

Analysis of Craniofacial Remodeling in the Aging Midface Using Reconstructed Three-Dimensional Models in Paired Individuals.

BACKGROUND: Aging leads to a panoply of changes of facial morphology. The present study was conducted to analyze modifications of the facial skeleton with aging, using high-resolution imaging and comparing the same individuals at two time points. METHODS: The electronic medical record system was reviewed since its inception in 2001 for patients for whom two computed tomographic scans of the midface were obtained at least 9 years apart. The computed tomographic scans were converted into three-dimensional craniofacial models for each patient, using the initial and the follow-up computed tomogra

Orbital Reconstruction: Patient-Specific Orbital Floor Reconstruction Using a Mirroring Technique and a Customized Titanium Mesh.

OBJECTIVE: Enophthalmos is a severe complication of primary reconstruction of orbital floor fractures. The goal of secondary reconstruction procedures is to restore symmetrical globe positions to recover function and aesthetics. The authors propose a new method of orbital floor reconstruction using a mirroring technique and a customized titanium mesh, printed using a direct metal laser-sintering method. METHODS: This reconstructive protocol involves 4 steps: mirroring of the healthy orbit at the affected site, virtual design of a patient-specific orbital floor mesh, CAM procedures for direct

Different expression of 11β-hydroxylase and aldosterone synthase between aldosterone-producing microadenomas and macroadenomas.

Aldosterone-producing adenoma is a major subtype of primary aldosteronism. The number of cases of these adenomas, which are below the detection limit of computed tomography but diagnosed by adrenal venous sampling, has recently been increasing. However, the pathophysiology of these adenomas, especially those manifesting clinically overt hyperaldosteronism despite their small size, remains unknown. Therefore, we examined the correlation between tumor size and the status of intratumoral steroidogenic enzymes involved in aldosterone biosynthesis using immunohistochemistry. Forty patients with sur

Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography for the detection of joint vascularity in arthritis--subjective grading versus computer-aided objective quantification.

PURPOSE: To compare joint inflammation assessment using subjective grading of power Doppler ultrasonography (PDUS) and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) versus computer-aided objective CEUS quantification. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 37 joints of 28 patients with arthritis of different etiologies underwent B-mode ultrasonography, PDUS, and CEUS using a second-generation contrast agent. Synovial thickness, extent of vascularized pannus and intensity of vascularization were included in a 4-point PDUS and CEUS grading system. Subjective CEUS and PDUS scores were compared to computer-aided obje

Efficient searches for low-energy structures in clusters with thousands of particles: Application to the Thomson problem.

We propose an algorithm for identifying low-energy minima in systems containing thousands of particles, at moderate computational cost. We focus on spherical crystals, in which particles form ordered structures on the surface of a sphere. Our method uses symmetric seed configurations, or known structures, to initialize searches across contiguous ranges of system sizes. Newly identified minima are then used to guide searches at neighboring sizes, allowing information to propagate efficiently through configuration space. We have tested this approach on the Thomson problem, one of the few interac

A Dexterous Robotic System for Autonomous Debridement of Osteolytic Bone Lesions in Confined Spaces: Human Cadaver Studies.

This article presents a dexterous robotic system for autonomous debridement of osteolytic bone lesions in confined spaces. The proposed system is distinguished from the state-of-the-art orthopedics systems because it combines a rigid-link robot with a continuum manipulator (CM) that enhances reach in difficult-to-access spaces often encountered in surgery. The CM is equipped with flexible debriding instruments and fiber Bragg grating sensors. The surgeon plans on the patient's preoperative computed tomography and the robotic system performs the task autonomously under the surgeon's supervision

Successful portal-systemic shunt occlusion of a direct shunt between the inferior mesenteric vein and inferior vena cava with balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration following recanalization after placing a covered stent in the portal and superior mesenteric veins.

Extrahepatic portal-systemic shunts cause portal-systemic encephalopathy. Direct communication between the inferior mesenteric vein (IMV) and the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a relatively rare pathway among the variety of portal-systemic shunts. This report describes a case of successful occlusion of an IMV-IVC shunt. Based on laboratory data and computed tomography findings, a 69-year-old woman with liver cirrhosis was diagnosed with portal-systemic encephalopathy due to a shunt between the IMV and the IVC. Her hepatic coma had not been adequately controlled by oral or intravenous pharmacother

Modified split-Lohmann holography: a shift- and ringing-free approach.

Split-Lohmann (SL) holography has recently emerged as a high-speed hologram computation method whose calculation time is independent of the number of layers, distinguishing it from conventional layer-based approaches. However, SL holography introduces depth-dependent spatial shifts and persistent ringing artifacts when a random phase is not employed. In this study, we propose a modified SL holography that simultaneously mitigates both depth-dependent shifts and ringing. By introducing a constant-value aperture into the SL virtual optical system, we obtain a reference complex amplitude that enc

[Digital-intelligent workflow for full-arch implant fixed prosthodontics].

Full-arch implant rehabilitation faces core challenges: insufficient impression accuracy, difficulty in precise jaw relation transfer, deviations between virtual planning and actual implant placement, inaccurate seating of immediate restorations, and poor passive fit of definitive prostheses. The digital-intelligent system centered on computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), intraoral scanning, cone beam CT, virtual patient modeling, and artificial intelligence is driving the transformation from an experience-driven to a data-driven precision medicine model, systematic

Retention of a Detached Robotic Scissors Tip Cover in the Abdominal Wall: A Case Report.

Robotic surgery has become increasingly widespread; however, device-related complications specific to robotic platforms are rarely reported. We describe a case of rectal cancer treated with robotic-assisted abdominoperineal resection using the da Vinci Surgical System. At the end of the procedure, the tip cover of the robotic scissors detached and was inadvertently retained within the abdominal wall. It was invisible on plain radiography but was detected on postoperative computed tomography as a cylindrical structure beneath the rectus abdominis muscle. The patient underwent reoperation to ret
