PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate morbidity and mortality associated with cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients with ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer.
METHODS: A retrospective review of patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery plus HIPEC from 1 January 2007 to 29 July 2013 at two academic medical centers was performed. Most sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are rarely seen by medical providers as life-threatening or as a source of severe sequelae. Human immunodeficiency virus and syphilis screening are still not universal and are affected by provider and patient misconceptions. We chose to discuss 3 STIs that can lead to significant morbidity and even mortality: neurosyphilis, due to its resurgence in the past years, Mpox due to its changing epidemiology and clinical presentation, and tubo-ovarian abscess due to its huge impact on female fertility and morbidity in general.

OBJECTIVE: Serous ovarian cancer is the most common subtype of epithelial ovarian carcinoma-the most prevalent type of ovarian cancer.
