The effect of physiotherapy including frequent changes of body position and stimulation to physical activity for infants hospitalised with acute airway infections. Study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Every year, many infants are infected with the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or other agents and need hospitalisation due to bronchiolitis. The disease causes much suffering and high costs. Thus, it is important that the treatment methods are both effective and cost-efficient. The use of different physiotherapy treatment methods is debated, and not all methods are evaluated scientifically. The clinical praxis in Sweden that includes frequent changes of body position and stimulation to physical activity has not previously been evaluated. The aim of this clinical study is to eval

Effect of medically lowering intraocular pressure in glaucoma suspects with high myopia (GSHM study): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Currently, whether and when intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering medication should be used in glaucoma suspects with high myopia (GSHM) remains unknown. Glaucoma suspects are visual field (VF) defects that cannot be explained by myopic macular changes or other retinal and neurologic conditions. Glaucoma progression is defined by VF deterioration. Here we describe the rationale, design, and methodology of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) designed to evaluate the effects of medically lowering IOP in GSHM (GSHM study). METHODS: The GSHM study is an open-label, single-center, RCT fo

Anifrolumab for the treatment of active systemic lupus erythematosus: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

We surveyed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the efficacy and safety of anifrolumab 300 mg in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) despite receiving standard therapy, using MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, and manual searches. Meta-analysis performed to determine treatment efficacy and safety outcomes of three RCTs (459 patients and 468 controls) revealed that the BICLA responses were significantly higher in the anifrolumab group than in the placebo group (OR = 2.071, 95%CI 1.575-2.725, p < 0.001). Steroid reduction and CLASI reduction w

[Chinese standard and milestone of laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer--Comments on the publishing of "Standard Operation Procedure of Laparoscopic surgery from CLASS-01 trial"].

A multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trial of laparoscopic gastrectomy for locally advanced distal gastric cancer (CLASS - 01 trial, ClinicalTrials.gov registration number NCT01609309) confirmed that experienced surgeons could safely performed laparoscopic D2 distal gastrectomy for patients with locally advanced gastric cancer, with minimally invasive benefits and non-inferior oncological efficacy. This provides strong evidence of the treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer via laparoscopic approach, comparable to open surgery. In September 2019, "Standard Operation Procedure of

Symptom-Triggered Therapy for Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Benzodiazepines are the standard medication class for treating alcohol withdrawal. Guidelines recommend dosing based on objectively measured symptoms (symptom-triggered therapy) rather than fixed dose regimens. However, the superiority of symptom-triggered therapy has been questioned, and concerns have been raised about its inappropriate use and safety. We aimed to assess whether symptom-triggered therapy is superior to fixed dose schedules in terms of mortality, delirium, seizures, total benzodiazepine dose, and duration of therapy. METHODS: A systematic literature search using M

Role of cardioprotective agents on chemotherapy-induced heart failure: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Although previous clinical randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have tested the effect of a variety of cardioprotective agents on cancer therapy-induced cardiotoxicity, the number of included patients was limited, and the results remained controversial. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the preventive or therapeutic effects of cardioprotective agents on heart failure (HF) caused by cardiotoxicity induced by cancer therapy. METHODS: We included trials of the following cardioprotective drugs: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, beta-blockers,

Randomised Controlled Trials for Informing Perinatal Care.

BACKGROUND: Randomised controlled trials provide the best evidence for the effects of interventions and are a key tool in the effort to improve the care and outcomes for newborn infants. METHODS: We discuss the role of randomisation for minimising selection bias in clinical trials and describe examples of seminal trials that have shaped the development of modern perinatal care. We consider the challenges inherent in designing and delivering large, simple, and pragmatic trials, and the need for the development and adoption of core outcome sets to ensure that trials provide high-quality evidenc
