CQH-MPN: A Classical-Quantum Hybrid Prototype Network With Fuzzy Proximity-Based Classification for Early Glaucoma Diagnosis.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide and the only form of irreversible vision loss, making early and accurate diagnosis essential. Although deep learning has revolutionized medical image analysis, its dependence on large-scale annotated datasets poses a significant barrier, especially in clinical scenarios with limited labeled data. To address this challenge, we propose a Classical-Quantum Hybrid Mean Prototype Network (CQH-MPN) tailored for few-shot glaucoma diagnosis. CQH-MPN integrates a quantum feature encoder, which exploits quantum superposition and entanglement fo

A Novel Approach for the Early Identification of Genetic Risk Factors for Alzheimer's Disease Using EEG and Psychometric Data.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder associated with impairments in memory and executive functions. Despite significant advancements in identifying genetic risk factors, the high cost and limited accessibility of genetic testing remain major barriers. In this work, we propose a cost-effective screening approach that leverages EEG recordings and psychometric test scores to predict an individual's genetic risk for AD. Our Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model shows promising performance: it achieved an F1 score of 72.21% in distinguishing APOE-$\varepsilon$4/PI

Multimodal deep learning for cardiovascular disease detection using pulse wave and vocal signals: a prediction model development and validation study.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), particularly coronary artery disease (CAD) and its severe sequela, heart failure (HF), pose a massive global public health burden, necessitating efficient, non-invasive early screening tools. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers a unique holistic diagnostic paradigm through “four examinations,” where “pulse diagnosis” (Mai Zhen, perceiving internal hemodynamics) and “auscultation-olfaction diagnosis” (Wen Zhen, assessing external systemic manifestations via voice) are pivotal. However, these subjective methods lack objective quantification. This

Three New Transformer-based Scientific Validated Paradigms for Classification of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients Using Transcriptomic Gene Data on GPU cluster.

BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION: Classification of transcriptomic gene data is essential for Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, particularly in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) patients. Existing approaches suffer from limited feature representation and weak biological context modeling. To address these gaps, we propose AtheroEdge™ 5.0, which incorporates three novel Transformers (Xmers): Neuro-Topology (NT), Self-Supervised Contrastive Learning with Alignment and Random Feature Masking (SCARF), and Temporal Diffusion Gene (TDG). Radar-Based Monitoring for Non-Contact Detection of Nocturnal Hypoglycemia in Diabetes: A Review.

Radar technology has emerged as a promising tool for contactless monitoring of sleep physiology and related disorders. Nocturnal hypoglycemia is a critical safety concern in people with diabetes, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children, older adults, and individuals in long-term care, where body-worn devices are often not used. To assess the feasibility of radar-based hypoglycemia detection, we conducted a scoping review of studies published between January 2007 and July 2025 that investigated radar monitoring of physiological parameters during sleep or sleep-related disorders

Blind Source Separation-Embedded Electroencephalogram Microstate Trajectory Modeling for Generalized Anxiety Disorder Identification.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) diagnosis remains challenging due to lacking reliable biomarkers. Electroencephalography(EEG) microstate analysis shows promise in detecting GAD-related neural dynamics, but its clinical application is limited by insufficient spatial resolution and sensitivity. To address this challenge, we propose a novel framework integrating fast independent component analysis (FastICA) with microstate analysis to enhance spatial specificity in EEG signal decomposition, consequently, GAD can be more accurately identified.By isolating dominant independent components and proj

Integrating phenotypic information of obstructive sleep apnea and deep representation of sleep-event sequences for cardiovascular risk prediction.

BACKGROUND: Advances in wearable and machine learning technologies have opened new possibilities for predicting cardiovascular (CV) risk. Moreover, the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and CV risk has been well recognized. However, how to integrate such information effectively to enhance risk prediction remains unclear. This study seeks to explore effective strategies for incorporating OSA phenotypic information and overnight physiological information for precise prediction of CV adverse outcome, as well as to identify the most significant features among a broad spectrum of ri

Smartwatch-Based Unobtrusive Continuous Anxiety Tracker for Evaluating Post-Stroke Patients' Quality of Life.

Post-stroke anxiety (PSA) affects 20-30% of stroke survivors and significantly impacts quality of life (QoL) and rehabilitation outcomes. Traditional emotion assessment relies on subjective self-reports, limiting to capture real-time fluctuations in emotional states. This study proposes a self-supervised learning (SSL) framework combined with a transformer-based emotion classifier to enable continuous anxiety tracking in patients with stroke using smartwatch-derived photoplethysmography (PPG). The SSL model was pretrained on the VitalDB dataset using R-peak-to-peak intervals (RRIs) extracted f

A narrative review of clinical decision support systems in offloading footwear for diabetic foot ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Offloading footwear is a critical intervention for preventing and treating diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), as it reduces plantar pressure (PP) and promotes healing. However, decision-making around its prescription remains fragmented, with variability in feature selection, limited personalization, and diverse evaluation approaches. While guidelines, knowledge-based systems, and machine learning (ML) applications have explored elements of decision-making, no clinical decision support system (CDSS) currently exists to provide feature-level prescriptions. METHODS: We conducted a narrative

A Meta-Learning Framework for Few-Shot Dynamic Hand Gesture Recognition with Soft Temporal-aware Contrastive Learning.

Few-shot learning improves data efficiency in surface electromyography (sEMG) gesture recognition, yet cross-subject and cross-posture generalization remains challenging due to nonstationary signals, electrode displacement, and time-varying within-gesture dynamics. We propose STC+Meta, a framework that couples temporally informed representation learning with efficient personalization. In pre-training, a soft temporal contrastive loss assigns adaptive weights by time lag to encourage temporal continuity while preserving short-lived discriminative transients, yielding coherent fused features fro

Exploration on Bubble Entropy.

Bubble entropy is a recently proposed entropy metric. Having certain advantages over popular definitions, bubble entropy finds its place in the research community map. It belongs to the family of entropy estimators which embed the signal into an m-dimensional space. Two are the main drawbacks for which those methods are criticized: the high computational cost and the dependence on parameters. Bubble entropy can be an answer to both, since computation can be performed in linear time and the dependence on parameters can be considered minimal in many practical situations. Popular entropy definiti

Multi-Channel Temporal Interference Retinal Stimulation Based on Reinforcement Learning.

Retinal degenerative diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa cause severe vision impairment, while current electrical stimulation therapies are limited by poor spatial targeting precision. As a promising non-invasive alternative, the efficacy of temporal interference stimulation (TIS) for retinal targeting depends on optimized multi-electrode parameters. This study reconstructed a whole-head finite element model with detailed ocular structures and applied reinforcement learning (RL)-based multi-channel electrode parameter optimization to retinal stimulation.

Automated abstraction of clinical parameters of multiple myeloma from real-world clinical notes using large language models.

BACKGROUND: Real-world evidence (RWE) is increasingly recognized as a valuable type of oncology research but extracting fit-for-purpose real-world data (RWD) from electronic health records (EHRs) remains challenging. Manual abstraction from free-text clinical documents, although the gold standard for information extraction, is resource-intensive. RWD generation using natural language processing (NLP) has been limited by performance ceilings and annotation requirements, which recent LLMs improve on. Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematological malignancy, with many opportunitie

Identification of Pandemic Risk for Avian Influenza Virus With Graph Cross Attention Networks.

Influenza A virus poses a significant threat to global health due to its high mutability and potential for pandemics. Accurate prediction of influenza virus pandemic risk can mitigate their threat to public health systems and societal stability. Current sequence-based deep learning methods predict the risk of viral pandemics by extracting features from the viral genome sequence. However, these methods ignore the gene flow between different virus strains through genetic reassortment, which is essential for understanding the dynamics of viral evolution. To leverage the gene flow of virus strains

Beyond prediction: explainable machine learning for ferritin estimation from complete blood count.

BACKGROUND: Serum ferritin is a primary marker of body iron stores; however, its diagnostic utility is limited by cost and non-specific elevation during inflammatory states. This study aimed to develop and validate explainable machine learning (ML) models to estimate ferritin status using only widely available and cost-effective complete blood count (CBC) and demographic parameters. METHODS: This prospective study analyzed 12,450 adult laboratory records. To ensure ferritin reflected true iron status, cases with inflammation (elevated white blood cell count or erythrocyte sedimentation rate)

Multi-Scale Cooperative Vowel Attention Strategy for Voice-Based Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Detection.

Non-invasive diagnostic technologies for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have emerged to address the limitations inherent in conventional invasive detection methods. Blood glucose levels may modulate laryngeal neuromuscular activity, thereby supporting the investigation of voice-based T2DM detection as a potential approach. However, methodological constraints in data acquisition and analytical limitations in extant studies have impeded substantive progress in voice-based T2DM detection. To systematically investigate voice-based T2DM detection, we conducted a comprehensive acoustic analysis of
