Electrocardiogram-based deep learning score for coronary artery calcification reclassifies cardiovascular risk and identifies screening candidates.

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring is included in major guidelines to guide statin decisions when conventional cardiovascular risk assessments are inconclusive. While computed tomography for CAC is impractical for routine use, electrocardiograms (ECGs) are widely available, offering broader opportunities for early detection. Extending our prior work demonstrating an ECG-based deep learning model for CAC prediction (ECG-CAC model), we aimed to develop a more robust model, while also comprehensively assessing its clinical utility. METHODS: Using nearly 200,000 standard 12-lead ECG

Adaptive Autocorrelation Based Heart Rate Estimation From Single-Axis Seismocardiogram: A Comprehensive Benchmark Across Six Diverse Datasets.

We introduce AACFD (Adaptive Autocorrelation Function Detector), a lightweight, fully automatic pipeline for estimating window-averaged heart rate (HR) from a single-axis seismocardiogram (SCG) without ECG calibration or machine learning. AACFD combines two periodicity detectors-(i) a YIN-style difference-function analysis of an adaptive SCG envelope and (ii) a short-window autocorrelation branch-operating on 3 s segments. The two branches are fused by feature-aware weighting based on signal-quality indices and multi-scale features; and a Hampel filter plus temporal consistency checks remove o

MDDTA: A Drug Target Binding Affinity Prediction Method Based on Molecular Dynamics Simulation Data Enhancement.

Deep learning-based methods for drug target binding affinity (DTA) prediction are improving the efficien cy of drug screening, but some limitations persist in current methodologies. Notably, prevailing models predominantly rely on static structural data while neglecting the conformational dynamics of drug target complexes, which compromises their capacity to discern subtle conformation dependent affinity variations. To address this issue, we first constructed MD-PDBbind, an enhanced sampled molecular dynamics simulation (MD) dataset. Building upon this foundation, the MDDTA model incorporating

Liver cancer risk stratification using deep learning on nationwide longitudinal health screening data: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Current liver cancer screening in Korea focuses on viral hepatitis or cirrhosis, despite rising risks from metabolic and alcohol-related liver disease. We aimed to develop a deep learning model that leverages routinely collected national screening and claims data to predict liver cancer risk without requiring additional diagnostic tests. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 3,962,209 adults aged 50-69 years who participated in the Korean National Health Screening program between 2010 and 2015, with follow-up until December 31, 2021. A total of 12,401 liver cancer

Smart Foot Wearables: An Interdisciplinary Perspective.

Smart foot wearables (SFWs) are emerging components of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) ecosystems and wearable cyber-physical platforms. They support mobility assessment, rehabilitation monitoring, foot-health management, fall-risk assessment, sports biomechanics, navigation, and biometric authentication. Unlike stationary instrumentation, SFWs face coupled constraints in power, form factor, near-ground wireless connectivity, and long-term mechanical and thermal loading. This survey presents a cross-layer synthesis of SFW systems. The proposed taxonomy defines five primary classification axe

Quantitative perspectives of patients and healthcare professionals to inform the co-design of an mHealth application for knee osteoarthritis management.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a leading cause of disability worldwide, and limited access to physiotherapy presents major barriers to evidence-based management. Mobile health (mHealth) applications can help address these challenges by supporting self-management, rehabilitation, and patient education. However, most existing applications lack robust evidence and demonstrate low adherence. Co-design approaches involving both patients and healthcare professionals may improve usability, engagement, and clinical integration. This study quantitatively examined user perspectives to inform t

CPFTransGAN: A Cross Perception Fusion Transformer-Based Generative Adversarial Network for Head and Neck Cancer Dose Prediction in Radiotherapy.

Radiation therapyis one of the primary treatment modalities for head and neck (H&N) cancer in clinical practice, aiming to deliver sufficient dose to Planning Target Volume (PTV) while protecting surrounding Organs at Risk (OAR) from or minimizing exposure to radiation. Quantitative dose prediction of various tissues and organs is a prerequisite for implementing intelligent precision radiotherapy. In order to improve dose prediction accuracy, we propose a generative adversarial network CPFTransGAN based on Cross Perception Fusion Transformer (CPF Transformer). Specifically, we design a CPF Tra

Examining usability of RxFill: integrating health IT to support medication adherence.

BACKGROUND: Over 50% of patients do not take their medications as prescribed or are non-adherent. Primary care providers are well positioned to address non-adherence. However, current methods for obtaining adherence are unreliable. RxFill integrates prescription medication fill status and dispense dates from community pharmacies into clinic electronic health records (EHRs). The goal of this study was to examine RxFill usability during a simulated case with primary care providers. METHODS: The study took place at an academic health system that implemented RxFill in June 2022. Participants were

Optimising dry powder inhalers for lung deposition with a DRL CFD coupled framework.

Respiratory tract infections remain a significant global health challenge, with inhalation therapies playing a critical role in targeted drug delivery. This study investigates the application of Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to determine the physical parameters of inhalers, aerosol particles, and their dissemination flow that maximise lung deposition for oral inhaled drug delivery. Results from this study suggest that DRL implemented with Proximal Policy Optimisation (PPO) works well for highly multivariate cases. In this study, the DRL performance in cases designed with the maximum number

An Ultra-Lightweight Cross-scale Attention Mamba Network for Accurate Skin Lesion Segmentation.

Accurate skin lesion segmentation is essential for the early detection and effective management of skin cancer. Existing deep learning architectures are constrained by a persistent computational-precision trade-off: models either require heavy computation that limits practical deployment, or accept reduced accuracy when running in resource-limited environments. Recent approaches reach strong performance by integrating advanced modules, but this also introduces complexity that restricts practical use. We address this limitation with the Cross-scale Attention Mamba Network (UCA-MNet), a hierarch

CTG-FRAME: development and validation of a multi‑modal deep learning for intrapartum escalation support and severe fetal acidemia prediction.

BACKGROUND: Cardiotocography is important for continuous intrapartum fetal surveillance, yet its clinical effectiveness is limited by high inter-observer variability and a false-positive burden of approximately 60%. These limitations contribute to unnecessary intervention while delaying recognition of fetal acidemia. For clinical use, decision-support systems must not only achieve high accuracy but also define their role in guiding escalation of care. METHODS: We developed and evaluated CTG-FRAME (CardioTocoGraphy-Fetal Risk Assessment and Monitoring Engine), an end-to-end deep learning decis

Intention to use smartphone medical applications among patients with chronic disease in southwest Ethiopia: an extended UTAUT2 model approach.

BACKGROUND: Chronic diseases are a major global health burden, particularly in low and middle-income countries like Ethiopia, where they significantly contribute to mortality. This underscores a critical need for effective prevention strategies. Smartphone medical applications (apps) present a promising tool for lifestyle management, promoting healthy behaviors and empowering patients. However, although numerous international studies have examined the intention to use mobile health (mHealth) applications, evidence from resource-limited settings such as Ethiopia remains scarce, particularly amo

Artificial Intelligence-based predictive models for adverse blood donor reactions: a systematic review of immediate and delayed events and clinical data approaches.

BACKGROUND: A significant challenge in blood donation is the occurrence of adverse donor reactions (ADRs) and their subsequent negative impact on the blood supply and public health. A promising strategy to mitigate these events is the deployment of non-invasive, cost-effective artificial intelligence (AI) models for donor screening and monitoring. This study aims to systematically review the AI models utilized in the identification and prediction of ADRs. METHODS: This study used a systematic review approach in line with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A search was performed across various databa

Investigating Strategies for Sustaining Modern Health Information Systems for Enhanced Care Delivery in Fragile Resource-Constrained Settings Through Electronic Medical Record Implementation in Haiti: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Robust and reliable health information systems (HISs) are foundational to equitable health care delivery in resource-constrained settings. Yet, HISs often exhibit significant fragmentation and complexity, which stem from many factors, including inadequate infrastructure, limited and unevenly allocated financial resources, expertise gaps, and a lack of integrated systems. At the same time, advances in modern HISs and digital technologies, such as electronic medical records (EMRs), present opportunities for addressing these limitations and supporting evidence-based health systems if
