From these data, it seems highly likely that conservation of the involved tube does not substantially increase the risk of a future ectopic pregnancy, although it does slightly increase the chance of a subsequent intrauterine pregnancy. We report a case of tubular bilharziosis discovered on a surgical specimen after salpingectomy. Tubular bilharziosis is not exceptional in endemic zones but is rarely found in Europe. The species most often isolated is Schistosoma haematobium. Contamination occurs via vascular anastomoses between the bladder and the genital organs. Bilharziosis has been shown to be a cause of extra-uterine pregnancy although its effect on fertility is yet to be established.

A 46-year-old black woman underwent exploratory surgery for evaluation of a tender mass in her abdomen. During the exploratory surgery bilateral tubo-ovarian abscesses ruptured. Specimens from both tubes and from the wall of the abscesses contained bacteria seen on the Brown-Hopps tissue gram stain. The bacteria were gram-positive, lancet-shaped diplococci characteristic of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Immunoperoxidase stains confirmed the identification of the organism as S pneumoniae.

A case of combined intrauterine and tubal pregnancy after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer is reported. As soon as the diagnosis was made at 9 weeks gestation, the fetal heart movement of the tubal pregnancy disappeared, and the patient was managed without surgery throughout the pregnancy course. After an infant was delivered, a right salpingectomy was performed and the diagnosis was histologically confirmed. Risk factors and treatments of combined pregnancy are discussed.

Serum levels of relaxin rapidly decreased in patients with hydatidiform mole who underwent hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. However, the disappearance pattern of relaxin in patients with hydatidiform mole who underwent hysterectomy only was delayed and similar to that after evacuation of mole. The aetiological factors associated with 1162 couples who attended a single infertility clinic and who were assessed according to a fixed protocol over an eight-year period were analysed retrospectively. Between 1969 and 1985 surgery was performed in 456 cases of extrauterine pregnancy (EUP) at Tübingen University Gynecological Clinic. One hundred fourteen cases of tubal pregnancy were examined for evidence of active or chronic salpingitis, other anatomic and functional etiologies, and the side of the corpus luteum relative to the pregnancy.
