OBJECTIVE: To measure calcium metabolism in 12 children with juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM).
METHODS: We used dual-tracer stable isotope studies to measure calcium metabolism in 12 children with JDM and a group of 43 healthy children (Group HC) of similar ages. Five of the JDM subjects were receiving steroids (Group JDM-ST) and 7 were not (Group JDM-NS).

Bone histology, bone mineral content, and calcium absorption were evaluated in 10 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis and osteopenia, before and after 1 yr of treatment with oral 25-hydroxycholecalciferol. The terahertz (THz) absorption and index of refraction of brain tissues from a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and a control wild-type (normal) mouse were compared using THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS).
