Staff- and service-level factors associated with organisational readiness to implement a clinical pathway for the identification, assessment, and management of anxiety and depression in adults with cancer.

BackgroundOrganisational readiness is recognised as a key factor impacting the successful translation of research findings into practice. Within psycho-oncology, measuring organisational readiness and understanding factors impacting organisational readiness is crucial as it is often challenging to implement evidence-based findings into routine cancer care. In this quantitative study, we examined the level of organisational readiness of cancer services preparing to implement a clinical pathway for the screening, assessment, and management of anxiety and depression in adult cancer patients (the

Application of Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cells in the Treatment of Hematological Malignancies.

T cell immune protection plays a pivotal role in the treatment of patients with hematological malignancies. However, T cell exhaustion might lead to the possibility of immune escape of hematological malignancies. Adoptive cell therapy (ACT) with chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cells can restore the activity of exhausted T cell through reprogramming and is widely used in the treatment of relapsed/refractory (r/r) hematological malignancies. Of note, CD19, CD20, CD30, CD33, CD123, and CD269 as ideal targets have shown extraordinary potential for CAR-T cell therapy and other targets such as C

Impact of maintenance therapy on survival after autologous stem cell transplant for multiple myeloma regardless of response: a global analysis.

The effect of different maintenance therapies on outcome after autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (AHCT) was analyzed in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) patients using global real-world data. NDMM patients transplanted between 2013 and 2017 were selected from the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) registry. Overall survival (OS) was evaluated as primary and progression-free survival (PFS), non-relapse mortality and relapse/progression incidence as secondary endpoints. Multivariable 6- month landmark analyses were performed using Cox proportional ha

Estimating the shares of the value of branded pharmaceuticals accruing to manufacturers and to patients served by health systems.

Previous studies have estimated that patients served by health systems accrue 59-98% of the value generated by new pharmaceuticals. This has led to questions about whether sufficient returns accrue to manufacturers to incentivize socially optimal levels of R&D. These studies have not, however, fully reflected the health opportunity costs imposed by payments for branded pharmaceuticals. We present a framework for estimating how the value generated by new branded pharmaceuticals is shared. We quantify value in net health effects and account for benefits and health opportunity costs in the patent

Therapeutic Antibodies in Hematology: Advances in Malignant and Non-Malignant Disorders.

Therapeutic antibodies have revolutionized hematology, offering targeted and effective treatments for both malignant and non-malignant diseases. In hematologic malignancies, anti-CD20, anti-CD19, anti-CD38, and anti-B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) antibodies have markedly improved survival outcomes, whereas antibody-drug conjugates and bispecific antibodies continue to expand therapeutic possibilities. Besides cancer, complement inhibitors such as eculizumab, ravulizumab, and the recently approved crovalimab have redefined paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and atypical hemolytic uremic synd

Epidemiological and economic impact of pre-exposure prophylaxis with targeted immunotherapies for COVID-19 among immunosuppressed patients in Argentina.

BACKGROUND: Some immunosuppressive disorders have shown substantially lower protection after COVID-19 vaccination against severe outcomes. Therefore, pre-exposure prophylaxis is proposed. Targeted immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies represents an option for preventing severe COVID-19. However, there is a lack of epidemiological and economic information on pre-exposure prophylaxis with targeted immunotherapies against COVID-19 among immunosuppressed patients. Thus, this study aims to identify and estimate the size of target population and direct medical costs related to pre-exposure prophy

Infection risk associated with talquetamab in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma: a systematic review with meta-analysis of talquetamab monotherapy and descriptive analysis of combination therapy.

BACKGROUND: Talquetamab, a first-in-class G protein-coupled receptor family C group 5 member D (GPRC5D) × CD3 bispecific antibody, demonstrates substantial clinical activity in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). However, immune dysfunction associated with advanced disease, extensive prior therapies, and bispecific antibody-mediated immune modulation may increase susceptibility to infections. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to characterize infection risk associated with talquetamab, with separate evaluation of monotherapy and combination therapy settings. METHODS: PubM

Comparison of CAR T-cell and bispecific antibody as third-line or later-line treatments for multiple myeloma: a meta-analysis.

BackgroundCAR-T-cell therapy and bispecific antibody have revolutionized the treatment landscape for multiple myeloma. However, there is currently a lack of studies comparing the efficacy and safety of these two approaches. This meta-analysis assesses the efficacy and safety of B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-directed CAR-T-cell therapies and BCMA×CD3 bispecific antibodies as third-line or later interventions for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM).MethodsWe searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases up to May 31, 2024, identifying 11 eligible studies encompassing

Understanding the Mechanisms of Diet and Outcomes in Colon, Prostate, and Breast Cancer; Malignant Gliomas; and Cancer Patients on Immunotherapy.

Cancer patients often ask which foods would be best to consume to improve outcomes. This is a difficult question to answer as there are no case-controlled, prospective studies that control for confounding factors. Therefore, a literature review utilizing PubMed was conducted with the goal to find evidence-based support for certain diets in specific cancer patients-specifically, we reviewed data for colon cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, malignant gliomas, and cancer patients on immunotherapy. Improved outcomes in colon cancer and patients on immunotherapy were found with high-fiber diet

A systematic review of patient and healthcare professional perceptions of the barriers and facilitators to embedding exercise in the adjuvant cancer treatment pathway.

PurposeEvidence suggests that physical activity and exercise interventions can mitigate cancer treatment side effects. However, an improved understanding of how physical activity/exercise can be embedded within cancer care pathways is needed. We examined what is known about the barriers and facilitators to implementing physical activity/exercise interventions in the adjuvant cancer treatment pathway from a patient and healthcare professional perspective. The protocol was registered a priori with PROSPERO in March 2023.MethodsElectronic databases (CINAHL Plus, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Cochrane) we
