OBJECTIVE: A major controversy in sentinel node (SN) biopsy of endometrial cancer is the injection site of mapping material. We compared lymphatic drainage pathways of the uterine cervix and uterine body in the same patients by head-to-head comparison of intracervical radiotracer and fundal blue dye injections.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Outcomes for children with cancer have steadily improved and the long-term survival for most early-stage childhood malignancies is now greater than 90%. On the contrary, the prognosis for children with metastatic cancer, though significantly improved from a generation ago, is generally still very disappointing. Sentinel node biopsy (SNB) has emerged as an accurate means of identifying nodal micrometastasis in cutaneous melanoma. In order to assess our learning curve, we compared our first 30 cases with our subsequent 30 cases. A total of 60 patients underwent SNB for cutaneous melanoma, using preoperative lymphoscintigraphy together with the intraoperative use of a Neoprobe and Patent Blue V dye.
