Marginal zone lymphomas represent approximately 10-12% of all B-cell lymphomas. Extranodal marginal zone lymphomas (EMZL) or mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are the most common subtype. Almost half of all MALT lymphomas arise in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and, while the stomach is the most common site of GI involvement, the small and large intestines can also be involved. Rare cases of MALT lymphoma involving the rectum have been reported; however, to our knowledge, involvement of the anal canal has never been reported in the literature. Here, we describe a unique case

BACKGROUND: Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine carcinomas (GEP-NECs) are biologically aggressive tumors, associated with a very poor survival. Due to their rarity, our knowledge on GEP-NEC biology is very limited. The aim of this study was to establish a GEP-NEC cell line model that might contribute to a better understanding of this rare malignant disease to further develop novel therapeutic approaches in preclinical studies.
METHODS: Small cell neuroendocrine cancer cell line NEC-DUE3 was derived from a lymph node metastasis of a neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) located at the anal canal. M

The incidence of presacral bleeding during rectal mobilization is low, but the bleeding may be massive and even fatal, therefore, effective hemostasis is critical. We report our successful use of a saline bag tamponade in a patient with a life-threatening presacral hemorrhage after an abdominoperineal resection of an anal carcinoma.

Patients with a wide variety of anorectal lesions present to family physicians. Most can be successfully managed in the office setting. A high index of suspicion for cancer should be maintained and all patients should be questioned about relevant family history or other indications for cancer screening. Patients with condylomata acuminata must be examined for human papillomavirus infection elsewhere after treatment of the presenting lesions. Their sexual partners should also be counseled and screened. Both surgical and nonsurgical treatments are available for the pain of anal fissure. Infectio

Adenocarcinoma in association with chronic anal fistula is a rare disease which gives rise to difficult problems of diagnosis and treatment. A case of mucinous adenocarcinoma arising on a long standing fistula in ano is described. A patient with a long history of mucinous discharge, pain and perianal induration underwent a biopsy of the external opening of the fistula that showed mucinous infiltrating adenocarcinoma. After a colonoscopy and a preoperative abdominal CT scan, she underwent a successful abdominoperineal resection with adjuvant chemoradiation therapy. Diagnosis of this condition i

Adenocarcinoma of the anal canal is a rare form of a rare tumor. It remains less prevalent than both basaloid and keratinizing tumors of the anal canal. Within the category of anal adenocarcinomas, uniformity in histology, biology, or etiology is lacking. This makes subdivision of this rare entity by various parameters necessary. Several etiologic associations have been described, such as chronic fistula-in-ano, anal Crohn's disease, and anal sexual intercourse, raising the issue of cancer prevention and early detection. Various available therapeutic options are also discussed with emphasis on

Giant condyloma acumination, also called Bürschke-Loewenstein disease, is a pseudo-tumoral epithelial proliferation of viral origin (human papilloma virus). Surgery is the most effective of all treatments, but it results in loss of all tissues covering the anal canal. We suggest a reconstruction technique, performed under colostomy, in which the rectal mucosa is brought down and three sliding flaps are constructed from the skin of the ischio-anal fossae.

Carcinoma arising from a chronic anal fistula is an uncommon condition. A 53-year-old woman visited our clinic, complaining of refractory anal fistulas that had persisted for over a period of 15 years, which had started to discharge pus and mucus through external fistulous openings several months ago. A cytologic study of the perianal discharges and a biopsy of the external openings were useful in preoperatively detecting a cancer complicating an anal fistula. An abdominoperineal rectal amputation with an extended dissection of the relevant lymph nodes was performed. Histopathological findings

The management of extramammary perianal Paget's disease should include a careful search for an associated carcinoma in the pelvic viscera by means of proctoscopy and x-ray. Such local malignancies as Bowen's disease, which may be pigmented and multifocal in this region, and invasive squamous cell carcinoma may first manifest themselves as pruritus ani.

A case report of mucinous adenocarcinoma in anorectal fistula of rectal mucosal origin, though many cases reported were thought to be of anal duct origin. The patient, a 51-year-old male, was operated for anal fistula twelve years previously. He presented to us for anal pain, anorectal stricture, and perianal induration. Abdominoperineal resection was performed for proper management. On gross no visible mucosal lesion of anal canal and rectosigmoid colon was revealed. On cross section a gelatinous tumor was found mostly outside the rectal muscle layer, and an internal opening of the lesion was
