Beta-Galactosidase [EC 3.2.1.23] has been purified from a culture of Aspergillus oryzae by 2-propanol fractionation, column chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and Sephadex G-200. The preparation was homogeneous on ultracentrifugation and disc electrophoresis. The enzyme showed pH optima of 4.5 with ONPG-1 as a substrate and 4.8 with lactose as a substrate. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The usefulness of two tests in the serodiagnosis of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) was compared. The tests were the serum Aspergillus galactomannan antigen test (Platelia (R) Aspergillus) by enzyme-linked immunoassay (EIA) using old and new cut-off indexes, and the Aspergillus precipitating antibody test.

We compared the activity of four doses of micafungin (FK463) with that of amphotericin B, liposomal amphotericin B and itraconazole in a murine model of disseminated aspergillosis. Aspergillus tracheobronchitis is a form of invasive aspergillosis that primarily occurs in immunocompromised patients. We report a case of Aspergillus bronchitis in an immunocompetent 55-year-old woman with a mucus plug at the site of localised bronchiectasis. The mucus plug gradually enlarged over 9 years, when the patient exhibited submissive haemoptysis. Bronchial artery embolization, followed by partial lung resection was performed. Pathological and mycological examinations led to the diagnosis of AT caused by Aspergillus udagawae.

We report a case of an Aspergillus fungal ball in a transplant graft kidney presenting as obstructive nephropathy. This is a rare manifestation considering the usual presentations of Aspergillus infection, which are pulmonary, rhino-cerebral, and disseminated forms. Imaging showed hydronephrosis with an echogenic material in the transplant renal pelvis, which was further found to be the fungal ball. The patient underwent a graft nephrectomy due to severe sepsis, and following that, his condition improved.
