BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although an increase in skin temperature of the hand implies sympathetic block after stellate ganglion block (SGB), it does not indicate complete sympathetic block unless accompanied by an absence of sweating because skin temperature may increase even with a partial sympathetic block. This study examined the efficacy of the SGB to block sweating in the hand and to determine if the magnitude of temperature change in the hand is predictive of a negative sweat test.

We present a case of a 54-year-old female with post-operative severe continuous ocular pain which occurred 3 months after retinal operation. Her general and mental conditions were good. We diagnosed it reflex sympathetic dystrophy and treated with stellate ganglion blocks (SGB) and continuous cervical epidural blocks. SGB and continuous cervical epidural blocks were effective. The effectiveness of the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) block for the relief of symptoms in chronic vasomotor rhinitis was assessed in 30 patients of both genders. The number of blocks required for complete relief was three (range from two to four) at weekly intervals in 66.7% of volunteers. There was no recurrence of symptoms during a follow-up period of 12-20 months in 29 patients, and one patient was symptom free for 8 months. The technique is simple and can be performed as an outpatient procedure without side effects.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the use of superior hypogastric plexus block with computed tomographic (CT) guidance in patients with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven blocks were performed on an outpatient basis in five women with endometriosis and pelvic pain. In the first four patients, one or two 20-gauge, 15-cm needles were placed anterior to the spine at the common iliac bifurcation from a posterior approach. Thirty-five patients with acute inflammations of the soft tissues were treated with procain blockages of the cervical sympathetic ganglia. This treatment modality has helped cut down the patients' hospitalization period by 3-4 days and did not involve therapy with other drugs, this being an important factor for patients with antibacterial drug allergies, contributing to improvement of the efficacy of the suggested method.

The effects of amlodipine (300 micrograms/kg administered intravenously), a new, long-acting, dihydropyridine class, calcium channel blocking drug, were studied in atrially paced (120 beats/min), autonomically blocked dogs.
