This study was conducted to determine the psychometric properties of a measure of social support, the Community Assessment Inventory (CAI), and to examine the role of social support in recovery. The CAI and the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) were administered to 196 opioid-dependent adults in (n = 135) or out of (n = 61) methadone treatment in Baltimore, Maryland, between 2004 and 2006. PURPOSE: To ascertain the importance of routine cultures and gram stains in the management of ulcerative keratitis.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 119 consecutive corneal ulcers seen at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. Cultures were obtained of the corneal ulcer and of the lids and conjunctivae of both eyes. Gram stains were performed by the hospital microbiology department on corneal scrapings from each ulcer.

The present study evaluates the response comparability between 361 elderly hip fracture patients admitted from the community to seven Baltimore area hospitals between 1984 and 1986 and interviewer selected proxies on items pertaining to patients' pre-fracture health and functional status. Thirty-six patients with arthrogryposis have been followed at The James Lawrence Kernan Hospital of Baltimore since 1951. In this group, nine patients sustained 16 perinatal fractures. The current study uses structural equation modeling to investigate factors associated with alcohol initiation and injection heroin use. Baseline data from the NEURO-HIV Epidemiologic Study in Baltimore, Maryland, were used.
