Bio-based foams with low density and thermal conductivity through ethyl cellulose and SiO2 stabilized Pickering emulsion templating.

Plastic pollution represents a pressing environmental issue, with conventional plastic foams exacerbating visual pollution, soil contaminati … ogonal experiments, revealing that the optimal parameters included curing at 80 °C for 3 h with 3 % benzoyl peroxide (BPO). The foaming experiments confirmed that heating 1.0 wt% NH4HCO3 as a blowing agent for 15 min facilitated the formation of porous structures. Determination of apparent density and thermal conductivity of foams, revealed that the foam exhibited …

Electrospun Biomaterials for Scarless Acne Wound Healing: Advances and Prospects.

Acne vulgaris is a chronic disease that occurs in the pilosebaceous units and ranks eighth in the global prevalence of all diseases. In its severe forms such as pustules, cysts, and nodules, acne can lead to permanent scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which are often difficult to reverse in the short term and significantly affect patients' psychological well-being and social interactions. Although a variety of pharmacological treatments are available, including retinoids, antibiotics, anti-androgens, benzoyl peroxide, and corticosteroids, the high recurrence rate and limited ef…

Lasers in the treatment of acne.

Acne is a chronic disease of the pilosebaceous units, presenting as inflammatory or noninflammatory lesions, affecting primarily the face but also the back and chest. The mainstay of treatment remains topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, antibiotics, and isotretinoin, many of which result in poor compliance, lack of durable remission, and incur adverse effects. The use of lasers to treat acne is continuously increasing because of their minimal complications, limited number of office-based treatments required, potential benefits of simultaneously treating acne scarring, and the ra…

Ori … endations support the following when used to treat AV: 1) monotherapy use should be avoided; 2) use benzoyl peroxide concomitantly to reduce emergence of resistant P acnes strains; 3) oral antibiotics should be used in combination with a topical regimen for moderate-to-severe inflammatory AV; and 4) use oral antibiotics over a limited duration to achieve control o …

Reduction of Inflammatory and Noninflammatory Lesions with Topical Tyrothricin 0.1% in the Treatment of Mild to Severe Acne Papulopustulosa: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Antibiotic-induced drug resistance requires new approaches in topical acne treatment. Tyrothricin is known to produce no resistance. In this study, it was tested for the first time in topical acne treatment. The efficacy and tolerability of topical tyrothricin 0.1% was evaluated. METHODS: A randomized, active comparator-controlled, exploratory, observer-blind clinical study was conducted in 24 patients with acne papulopustulosa. Randomization on a split-face was either tyrothricin versus clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide (BPO) (n = 12) or tyrothricin versus BPO 5% (n = 12). The …

Whey protein precipitating moderate to severe acne flares in 5 teenaged athletes.

Acne vulgaris has been linked to milk ingestion, both whole and skim milk. The milk fraction that promotes acne is unknown. Five case reports are presented of male patients aged 14 to 18 years who experienced onset of acne shortly after initiation of whey protein supplementation; 3 teenagers used the supplement for muscle building in football training and the other 2 for attempting to gain weight. All 5 patients had poor response to acne treatment regimens of oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, and benzoyl peroxide. Lesions fully cleared in 4 patients after discontinuation of whey protein sup…

Skin sensitivity to denture base materials in the burning mouth syndrome.

The significance of sensitizing compounds in the denture base for the etiology of the burning mouth syndrome (BMS) has been studied in 53 denture-wearing persons, seven males and 46 females. Epicutaneous patch tests were performed with standard concentrations of benzoyl peroxide, dibutylphthalate, dimethyl-p-toluidine, formaldehyde, hydroquinone, methylmethacrylate, p-phenylendiamine and with cadmium sulfate, potassium dichromate, cobalt chloride and nickel sulfate. Furthermore, patch testing was performed with filings from the denture mixed with the patient's own saliva. In cases with an infl…

[Management of acne in adolescents].

Acne is an androgen-dependant inflammatory folliculitis with non-inflammatory lesions (open and closed comedos) and inflammatory papules, pustules and sometimes nodules. Topical retinoïds, benzoyl peroxyde, antibiotics with anti-inflammatory properties, antiandrogens in female acne (antiandrogens and antiandrogenic oral contraceptives), and isotretinoin are the major drugs used in the management of the affection. Acne has to be treated according to the type of acne, severity, age and sex. Acne may also be the major sign of ovarian (PCOS) or adrenal hyperandrogenism in either female teenagers o
