Buccal bone plate in the immediately placed and restored maxillary single implant: a 7-year retrospective study using computed tomography.

AIM: The aim of this retrospective study is to assess the long-term buccal bone plate changes in cases of single implants in the maxillary aesthetic area placed and restored immediately after extraction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A private practice's database was reviewed to find patients who had a standard computed tomography (CT) scan taken no more than 24 hours after insertion of a single, immediately restored, postextractive implant in the anterior maxilla. After a minimum period of 7 years, a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was performed. Buccal bone plate measurements were performed on

Structural and molecular analyses of bone bridge formation within the growth plate injury site and cartilage degeneration at the adjacent uninjured area.

Injury to the growth plate is common and yet the injured cartilage is often repaired with undesirable bony tissue, leading to bone growth defects in children. Using a rat tibial growth plate injury model, our previous studies have shown sequential inflammatory, fibrogenic, osteogenic and bone maturation responses involved in the bony repair. However, it remains unclear whether there is progressive accumulation of bone within the injury site and any potential degenerative changes at the adjacent non-injured area of the growth plate. This study examined effects of growth plate injury on the stru

Localization of sudanophil material at the sites of calcification in dentine, and the compact bone and epiphyseal cartilage plate of tibia in the rat given beryllium carbonate.

The localization of sudanophil material at dentine, the compact bone and epiphyseal cartilage plate of tibia of rat given beryllium carbonate was examined. Sudanophil material was seen at the boundary parts between dentine and widened predentine, and between widened preosseous matrix and calcified bone, but it was not seen at the area corresponding to the zone of provisional calcification. These facts suggest that the localization of sudanophil material in hard tissue of rat with Be rickets was similar to that in vitamin D deficient-induced rickets. This sudanophil material was not disappeared

Pharmacological neutralization of the Rspo2/Wnt axis preserves subchondral bone plate and vascular niche integrity to attenuate cartilage degeneration in osteoarthritis.

OBJECTIVES: Osteoarthritis (OA) involves the structural failure of the joint unit, where the subchondral bone plate and associated vascular niche serve as a critical barrier and mechanical support for articular cartilage. This study investigates R-spondin 2 (Rspo2) as a mediator of instability within the subchondral bone plate-associated vascular niche and evaluates whether its pharmacological neutralization attenuates niche disruption and preserves osteochondral integrity. METHOD: Human tibial-plateau subchondral bone scRNA-seq (GSE196678) and clinical specimens were analyzed to identify Wnt

Long-Term Evaluation of Bone Healing Monitoring Using an Instrumented Plate with Measurement Sensors (Smart Implant) over 10 Years.

A total of 66 smart implants were included. As a measure of bony stability, the relative elastic compliance of the osteosynthesis was determined from the gradient between the applied external load and the measured implant load over the entire healing process. The healing process of non-unions of the femur with a smart implant was tracked by telemetric measurements over a timespan of up to 10 years. The measurements of the longest healing process show a very slow but constant decrease in force transmission over the implant, radiological findings over 10 years show corresponding consolidation un

Plate or intramedullary fixation: A comparative analysis of surgical treatment options for adult both-bone forearm fracture - A retrospective clinical study.

BACKGROUND: Both-bone forearm fractures (BBFx) are common, high-energy injuries that significantly disrupt the anatomical and functional integrity of the forearm. While plate-screw osteosynthesis (PSO) has long been the standard treatment, intramedullary nailing (IMN) and hybrid methods combining both approaches have gained attention due to their potential advantages in minimally invasive procedures and functional outcomes. This study aims to compare the surgical and clinical outcomes of four different treatment strategies for BBFx. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on 191 adult p

Surface modification of a commercial bone plate (Ti6Al4V) implant for improved antibacterial and cytocompatibility via thermal dewetting of a silver thin film.

The high demand for bone grafts has motivated the development of implants with excellent osteogenic activity, whereas the risk of implant-associated infection, particularly given the rise of antimicrobial resistance, has compelled the development of implants with innovative antimicrobial strategies in which a small amount of bactericidal agent can effectively kill a wide range of bacteria. To induce antibacterial property, the surface of Grade-5 bone plate titanium implants used in clinical applications was modified using direct current (DC) sputter coating followed by thermal annealing. The 1

A Novel Screwless Modification of the Khoury Plate Technique using an Innovative Bone Adhesive Formulated from Underwater Biomimetic Marine Proteins.

Over the past two decades, the Khoury plate technique has been widely utilized with much success to facilitate bone augmentation in critically deficient bone areas. Simply, the technique includes harvesting autogenous bone plates and utilizing them with external screw fixation. The rigidity of the bone plates enclosing the bony defect on both the buccal and lingual surfaces allows for tension-free bone remodeling to occur, favoring an ideal bone-forming environment. Following, a 4- to 6-month healing period, a flap is raised, screws may be removed, and implants are placed. With advancements ma…

Continuous Measurement of Reactive Oxygen Species Formation in Bacteria-infected Bone Marrow-derived Macrophages Using a Fluorescence Plate Reader.

Macrophages are at the center of innate immunity and are the main target cells of the intracellular pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. The production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) is the host's early response to invading microbes, as oxidative stress is highly toxic for bacteria. Adequate ROS/RNS production in infected macrophages is critical for the clearance of intracellular pathogens; this is achieved by several enzymes, including inducible NADPH phagocyte oxidase (NOX) and nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), respectively. The pro-inflammatory cytokine interferon gamm

Hsa_circ_0008870 suppresses bone formation of growth plate through inhibition of miR-185-3p/ MAPK1 axis in idiopathic short stature.

Idiopathic short stature (ISS) is the most common clinical cause of the short stature with an unclear aetiology and a lack of effective treatment. Circular RNAs have been shown to play a significant regulatory role through various signal transduction pathways in a variety of diseases in recent years. However, the role of circular RNAs on ISS is not yet well-understood and requires a special attention. The differentially expressed circular RNAs were screened by microarray chip analysis, and RT-qPCR was used to verify the expression of hsa_circ_0008870 in ISS patients. Subsequently, in vitro and

Pelvic modelling and the comparison between plate position for double pelvic osteotomy using artificial cancellous bone and finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Finite element analysis was used to compare fixation methods for double pelvic osteotomy (DPO). Using 3D scanning a stereolithography (stl) image was produced of a canine pelvis and this was subsequently refined in computer aided design (CAD). Using the CAD files, the images were imported in MSC Marc software to produce a working finite element (FE) model with 3 dimensional tetrahedral elements with linear shaped functions. The dimensions of a precontoured pelvic osteotomy plate with eight screws and a twisted seven screw straight plate were used to build the 2 fixations implants f

Neurotrophin-3 Induces BMP-2 and VEGF Activities and Promotes the Bony Repair of Injured Growth Plate Cartilage and Bone in Rats.

Injured growth plate is often repaired by bony tissue causing bone growth defects, for which the mechanisms remain unclear. Because neurotrophins have been implicated in bone fracture repair, here we investigated their potential roles in growth plate bony repair in rats. After a drill-hole injury was made in the tibial growth plate and bone, increased injury site mRNA expression was observed for neurotrophins NGF, BDNF, NT-3, and NT-4 and their Trk receptors. NT-3 and its receptor TrkC showed the highest induction. NT-3 was localized to repairing cells, whereas TrkC was observed in stromal cel
