Segmental aplasia of the uterine body was diagnosed in a 5-year-old, mixed breed bitch. Abdominal radiography and transabdominal ultrasonography revealed marked dilation of fluid-filled uterine horns with no evidence of a uterine body. Sex hormone assays did not detect the presence of estradiol-17 beta; however, progesterone (2 ng/ml) was found in the serum, indicating anestrus. A radioimmunoassay for porcine parathyroid hormone has been developed and applied to measure immunoreactive parathyroid hormone (PTH) in plasma of pigs with hereditary vitamin D dependency rickets (VDDR) (pseudovitamin D deficiency rickets). Levels of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25-(OH)-D3) in plasma were measured by a protein binding assay. A total of 702 examinations were conducted on young (16 to 31 months) beef bulls of 3 breeds and 3 breed crosses (Brahman cross--100; Africander cross--93; Shorthorn cross--109; Brahman--81; Africander--89, and Hereford--230). A high occurrence of both increased size (overall 11.7%) and consistency (overall 40.2%) of seminal vesicles was observed. Leucinaminopeptidase (LAP), lactatedehydrogenase (LDH) and glucose-6-phosphatdehydrogenase (GPDH) were analysed in the lenses of two different breeds of mice. Compared to the lenses of a control stock (Agnes Blum, Jena), in the healthy seeming, heterozygous mice the same activities of LAP, LDH, and GPDH were found.
