Seven cadmium complexes: [CdX2(Hapro)(H2O)n] (X: Cl(1), Br(2)), [CdX2(Hgaba)] (X: Cl(3), Br(4)), [Cd(Hahex)2(H2O)2][CdCl4] (5), and [CdX2(Haze-3)](H2O)n (X: Cl(6), Br(7)) have been prepared and investigated by means of IR and FT Raman spectra. A method for the preparation of 5-aminobutenolides from 2-bromo-2H-azirine-2-carboxylic esters/amides with arylacetic acids has been developed. The reaction regioselectivity can be switched by a change of the basic catalyst, making it possible to prepare both butenolide-based α- and β-amino acid derivatives. The change in the regioselectivity is interpreted in terms of the stability and reactivity of the enolates formed during the SN2' substitution of the bromine in the azirine by the carboxylate ion.

Developing ultra-narrow bandgap electron acceptors is an effective approach to achieving transparent organic photovoltaics (TOPVs). In this study, two phenazine based non-fullerene acceptors, namely PA-2H and PA-2Br, are synthesized by merging core bromination and extended conjugation. Nucleophilic substitution of tetrabromosubstituted naphthalene diimides (NDIs) with aniline was studied in detail to explore the regioselectivity as three different diamino-substituted regioisomeric products can be formed. We found that the regioselectivity of the nucleophilic disubstitution of 2,3,6,7-tetrabromonaphthalene diimide with aniline is dependent on reaction solvents and additives. A microwave-enhanced procedure for the synthesis of substituted benzofurans starting from 2-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-phenols and using triphenylphosphine polystirene resin is reported. The benzofurans are isolated in good to high yields and purities by simple workup. The procedure can be applied to chiral alpha-alkyl-2-benzofuranmethanamines too.

Here we describe the efficient total synthesis of the three title hexahydropyrrolo[2,3-b]indole alkaloids and debromo derivative from readily available indolin-3-ones using key domino reactions, olefination-isomerization-Claisen rearrangement (OIC), and reductive cyclization (RC). A series of aromatic ring-modified praziquantel derivatives were prepared and evaluated against juvenile and adult stage of Schistosoma japonicumin. Several analogs comparable in activity to the drug praziquantel have been identified based on in vitro and in vivo japonuicum schistosomes worm viability assay. Structure and activity relationship of these praziquantel aromatic ring-modified compounds was revealed. Specifically, a compound in which a bromine has been introduced in the aromatic ring of praziquantel demonstrated close antischistosomal activity to praziquantel in vivo.

Three new 4-hydroxy aurone compounds 1-3 with dimethylamino (1), bromine (2) and cyano (3) as terminal group have been synthesized. Their photophysical properties as well as recognition properties for cyanide anions in acetonitrile and aqueous solution have also been examined. These compounds exhibit remarkable response to cyanide anions with obvious color and fluorescence change owing to hydrogen bonding reaction between cyanide anions and the O-H moiety of the sensors, which allows naked eye detection of cyanide anions.

The stereoselective synthesis of 1-amino-2-alkylalkanephosphonic acids, namely, compounds bearing two chiral centers, was achieved by the condensation of hypophosphorous acid salts of (R)(+) or (S)(-)-N-alpha-methylbenzylamine with the appropriate aldehydes in isopropanol. Simultaneous deprotection and oxidation by the action of bromine water provided equimolar mixtures of the RS:RR and SR:SS diastereomers of desired acids. They appeared to act as moderate inhibitors of kidney leucine aminopeptidase with potency dependent on the absolute configuration of both centers of chirality.

Ab initio calculations by using Gaussian-2 theory have been carried out for the reactions between halogen atoms and various fuel molecules, i.e. fluorine, chlorine, and bromine atoms vs. hydrogen, methane, ethane, ethylene, acetylene, ammonia, silane, dichlorosilane and phosphine. The activation energy for the reaction between a halogen atom and a fuel molecule seems to indicate whether the reaction between the fuel gas and the corresponding halogen gas occurs spontaneously when they are brought into contact to each other at room temperature.
