[A case of bronchogenic cyst with elevated SLX levels in serum and cystic fluid].

A 27-year-old man was admitted with chest pain and cough in January 1999. Chest radiograph on admission showed a widened tracheal bifurcatio … X. After resection of the cyst, the level of SLX in serum decreased. This represents a rare case of bronchogenic cyst with a high level of SLX in serum and cystic fluid.

The first case of intraperitoneal bronchogenic cyst in Korea mimicking a gallbladder tumor.

We present a case of an intraperitoneal bronchogenic cyst located at inferior surface of the liver, next to the gallbladder which clinically mimicked a gallbladder tumor. This is the first case reported in Korea, and we offer reviews of the related literatures. A 48-yr-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of intermittent abdominal pain in right upper quadrant. Computed tomography showed a large mass along-side the gallbladder. During laparotomy, the mass showed an ovoid cystic nature, which was attached to the normal gallbladder and liver bed. Cyst excision with cholecystectomy was p…

[Radiologic manifestations of bronchogenic cysts of the carina in children. A propos of 5 cases].

The authors report 5 cases of bronchial cysts of the carina tracheae in girls. Symptomatic cysts were located on the left. Diagnostic delay was often very long: about 2 years between the first signs and surgery. When the cyst was on the left side, it was not directly visible on standard x-ray films or tomographies of the chest. Barium swallow shows a typical compression on the anterior part of the esophagus. In children with relapsing atelectasis or over distension, localized on the left, CT scan might allow for earlier diagnosis, as the density of bronchial cysts in high: about 50 Hounsfield

Uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in the prone position for esophageal bronchogenic cyst.

Esophageal bronchogenic cysts are very rare. A bronchogenic cyst is a congenital malformation resulting from abnormal sprouting of primitive bronchi because of a foregut bronchopulmonary malformation. An 18-year-old patient with a cystic tumor in the left posterior mediastinum was identified. The mediastinal tumor was removed by uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The operation was performed in the prone position through a single 4-cm incision on the lateral scapular line in the left ninth intercostal space. After tumor resection, the dissected esophageal muscle and mediastinal ple…

Mediastinal bronchogenic cyst resected in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cyst (BC) is an uncommon, benign congenital mediastinal tumor. Its progressive course is often asymptomatic, making the diagnosis difficult or fortuitous, unless non-specific respiratory signs appear, such as persistent cough or respiratory discomfort. We herein report the first documented case in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 63-year-old man, with no prior medical or surgical history, consulted for a persistent dry cough, unresponsive to usual medical treatment. A chest CT scan revealed a cystic mediastinal mass close to both esoph…

Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst with fluid‑fluid level: A case report and literature review.

Bronchogenic cyst is a benign lesion with congenital dysplasia. Although the occurrence of this type of cyst is rare in the retroperitoneum, the presence of fluid-fluid levels is an even rarer phenomenon in bronchogenic cysts. Therefore, it can be easily misdiagnosed due to the lack of a universal guideline of specific imaging manifestations. The present report describes the case of a patient with a bronchogenic cyst with fluid-fluid levels whilst also performing a brief literature review to summarize the findings of previous reports on this condition. A 48-year-old male individual presented w…

Dual lumbar bronchogenic and arachnoid cyst presenting with sciatica and left foot drop.

INTRODUCTION: Spinal bronchogenic cysts are rare findings, with only four cases of lumbar bronchogenic cysts reported in the literature. All of these bronchogenic cysts involved the conus medullaris. We present the first case of a lumbar bronchogenic cyst and arachnoid cyst arising from the cauda equina in a 68-year-old male. Uniquely, this bronchogenic cyst also contained components of an arachnoid cyst. METHODS: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a compressive cystic lesion at the level of the L3 vertebra splaying the cauda equina. An L3/L4 laminectomy was performed with marsupia…

Carcinoid tumor arising in a thymic bronchogenic cyst associated with thymic follicular hyperplasia.

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital malformations of the embryonic tracheobronchial tree and are the most common cause of mediastinal cysts, encountered mainly in pediatric patients and young adults. Conservative treatment has been proposed for asymptomatic patients. However, malignant transformation occurs occasionally and the clinicopathological features of secondary malignancy are not well characterized. In this report, we present a carcinoid tumor found in the thymic bronchogenic cyst of a 41-year-old female complaining of mild chest pain. The thymic tissue also shows follicular lymphoid hyp…

Infected mediastinal bronchogenic cyst successfully treated by endobronchial ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration.

Bronchogenic cysts are one of the most common bronchopulmonary congenital malformations found in adults. Most authors agree that symptomatic or infected cysts should be surgically removed. We report our experience in which we treated an infected mediastinal bronchogenic cyst with a combination of antibiotics and drainage by endobronchial ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration, with resolution of symptoms and no evidence of recurrence after an 18-month follow-up.

Permanent third-degree atrioventricular block as clinical presentation of an intracardiac bronchogenic cyst.

Bronchogenic cysts are the most common primary cysts in the mediastinum. However, intracardiac bronchogenic cysts are uncommon. The present case represents a unique situation, in which an intracardiac bronchogenic cyst at the region of the atrioventricular node presented as permanent complete atrioventricular block (AVB) and was associated with the presence of an ostium secundum atrial septal defect.

Alcohol ablation therapy of an atypically located symptomatic bronchogenic cyst: a case report.

Bronchogenic cyst is a rare developmental lesion. It is usually asymptomatic and most frequently located in the middle mediastinum and lung parenchyma. It can cause symptoms only when infected or pressing on neighboring structures. The MRI findings in a 34-year-old woman with an 8 months history of back pain were evaluated and revealed a cystic lesion in the left paravertebral area. The histopathologic evaluation of the material aspirated with CT guidance was reported to be bronchogenic cyst. A simultaneous alcohol ablation was accomplished. After the procedure the patient's pain disappeared a…

Uniportal thoracoscopic excision of a bronchogenic cyst impersonating neurogenic tumor: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts (BC) comprise 50%-60% of all mediastinal cysts but are rare in the posterior mediastinum. The infrequent occurrence, unusual features, and atypical locations of posterior BC can result in misdiagnosis before surgery. CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old male presented with an incidental finding of paravertebral mass during his workup for renal cell carcinoma of the left kidney. Initially, the mass was diagnosed as a neurogenic tumor which after uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery (uVATS) turned out to be a BC in an ectopic location. DISCUSSION: …

Successful excision of a giant subcarinal bronchogenic cyst by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts, regarded as congenital foregut abnormalities, are uncommon. These cysts can compress adjacent structures, causing obstructive symptoms and complications. A 57-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with complaints of tachycardia, dyspnea, and chest pain. Enhanced computed tomography revealed a 90 × 90 mm, well-defined subcarinal cystic mass causing significant compression and stenosis of the right main bronchus, right pulmonary artery, and right inferior pulmonary vein. The mass was successfully excised using one window and two-port video-assisted thoracoscop…

Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst in suprarenal region treated by laparoscopic resection: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts (BCs) are benign congenital foregut malformations that are mostly present in the mediastinum and pulmonary parenchyma but rarely seen in the retroperitoneum. CASE SUMMARY: We report the case of 17-year-old girl who complained of epigastric pain. A cystic lesion was found in the left suprarenal region on spectral computed tomography. The ovoid, well-defined, and homogeneous cystic lesion revealed slightly enhancement on conventional imaging but no enhancement on 40 KeV virtual mono-energetic images. The iodine density value of the lesion was 0.001 mg/mL and the Z…
