Isosorbide bis(methyl carbonate) (IBMC) is a scarcely studied green chemical with potential applications in the manufacturing of non-isocyanate polyurethanes and bisphenol A-free polycarbonates. Results of radioactivity measurements in Bratislava aerosols following the Fukushima accident showed that at least three radioactive plumes arrived to Bratislava as indicated by (131)I/(137)Cs activity ratios. In this article, we address the issue of persistence of chromosome exchanges following acute in vitro exposure of rat peripheral blood to 137Cs. Irradiation occurred 24 hr after culture initiation, and metaphase chromosomes were prepared 2, 3, 4, and 5 days later. Chromosome analyses were performed in blood lymphocytes of 22 nuclear power plant workers with a mean accumulated radiation dose of 390 mSv (270-530 mSv). Nineteen workers had received 300 mSv 4-16 years prior to sampling. The frequency of dicentrics and ring chromosomes (1.75 x 10(-3)) was significantly elevated as compared to a control group (0.58 x 10(-3)). Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) is used to treat patients with hematologic malignancies known to infiltrate the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment.
