The cryptococcal antigen (CRAG) lateral flow assay (LFA) had 100% sensitivity and specificity on cerebrospinal fluid samples. Pretreatment LFA titers correlated with quantitative cultures (R(2) = 0.7) and predicted 2- and 10-week mortality. The CRAG LFA is an accurate diagnostic assay for CSF and should be considered for point-of-care diagnosis of cryptococcal meningitis.

Leishmaniasis is an insect-transmitted parasitic disease with a worldwide distribution. Leishmania spp. infections cause a broad spectrum of clinical signs, ranging from skin lesions to fatal visceral disease. Dogs are a major reservoir host for visceral leishmaniasis in humans. Sera of 80 patients with pyodermias of varius etiology were analysed for interferon-gamma (IF-gamma), antiinterferon autoantibodies (IF-a-AB), corresponding antiidiotypic antibodies (IF-AIAB) and the ratio IF-a-AB/IF-AIAB using ELISA assay. There was no correlation between serum IF-gamma and IF-a-AB. Progression of this disease was characterized by an increase of serum IF-a-AB and a decrease of IF-AIAB. Prolonged duration of this disease also caused the decrease of serum anti IF-a-AB and IF-AIAB. The ratio of IF-a-AB/IF-AIAB increased with severity and duration of this disease.

We report here the characterization of restrictin, a novel chick neural extracellular matrix glycoprotein associated with the cell recognition molecule F11. The methylating activity is eluated by two fractions at the 0.47 M and 0.53 M NaCl concentrations.
