A Rapid Artificial Intelligence-Based Computer-Aided Diagnosis System for COVID-19 Classification from CT Images.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The excessive number of COVID-19 cases reported worldwide so far, supplemented by a high rate of false alarms in its diagnosis using the conventional polymerase chain reaction method, has led to an increased number of high-resolution computed tomography (CT) examinations conducted. The manual inspection of the latter, besides being slow, is susceptible to human errors, especially because of an uncanny resemblance between the CT scans of COVID-19 and those of pneumonia, and therefore demands a proportional increase in the number of expert radiologists. Artificial intelligence-based computer-aid

Design of an Interactive Mind Calligraphy System by Affective Computing and Visualization Techniques for Real-Time Reflections of the Writer's Emotions.

A novel interactive system for calligraphy called mind calligraphy that reflects the writer's emotions in real time by affective computing and visualization techniques is proposed. Differently from traditional calligraphy, which emphasizes artistic expression, the system is designed to visualize the writer's mental-state changes during writing using audio-visual tools. The writer's mental state is measured with a brain wave machine to yield attention and meditation signals, which are classified next into the four types of emotion, namely, focusing, relaxation, calmness, and anxiety. These emot

Automatic Quantitative Computed Tomography Evaluation of the Lungs in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis Treated With Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Interstitial lung disease stands among the leading causes of death in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients. Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) has been proven superior to conventional immunosuppressive therapy in severe and progressive SSc. Here, pulmonary quantitative measurements were obtained in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans of patients with SSc before and after AHSCT. METHODS: The medical records of thirthy-three patients who underwent AHSCT between 2011 and 2017 were evaluated for clinical and tomographic features at baseline

STANDING COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IN NONANESTHETIZED LITTLE PENGUINS (EUDYPTULA MINOR) TO ASSESS RESPIRATORY SYSTEM ANATOMY AND MONITOR DISEASE.

Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scans were performed in clinically healthy, nonanesthetized, standing little penguins (Eudyptula minor) to determine reference ranges for air-sac and lung volumes, as well as lung density. Five of 15 clinically healthy birds were diagnosed with pulmonary granulomas on initial MDCT scans. Granulomas were not readily apparent on radiographs, even in cases where the entire normal pulmonary parenchymal architecture was effaced on the MDCT scan. Serial MDCT scans after antifungal and antimycobacterial therapies demonstrated a response to treatment. MDCT scan

A computer-aided diagnosis system for plus disease in retinopathy of prematurity with structure adaptive segmentation and vessel based features.

Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a blinding disease affecting the retina of low birth-weight preterm infants. Accurate diagnosis of ROP is essential to identify treatment-requiring ROP, which would help to prevent childhood blindness. Plus disease, which characterizes abnormal twisting, widening and branching of the blood vessels, is a significant symptom of treatment requiring ROP. In this paper, we have developed and evaluated a computer-based analysis system for objective assessment of plus disease in ROP, which best mimics the clinical method of disease diagnosis by identifying unique v

Identification and red blood cell automated counting from blood smear images using computer-aided system.

Red blood cell count plays a vital role in identifying the overall health of the patient. Hospitals use the hemocytometer to count the blood cells. Conventional method of placing the smear under microscope and counting the cells manually lead to erroneous results, and medical laboratory technicians are put under stress. A computer-aided system will help to attain precise results in less amount of time. This research work proposes an image-processing technique for counting the number of red blood cells. It aims to examine and process the blood smear image, in order to support the counting of re

Prognostic significance of computed tomography criteria for pulmonary veno-occlusive disease in systemic sclerosis-pulmonary arterial hypertension.

OBJECTIVES: SSc-pulmonary arterial hypertension (SSc-PAH) is associated with worse response to therapy and survival when compared with idiopathic PAH. It is suggested that the vasculopathy in SSc may involve postcapillary pulmonary venules resulting in pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD). This may underlie the lower gas transfer and worse outcome on therapy. We sought to test whether CT signs of PVOD (CTS-PVOD) were frequent in SSc-PAH and whether they were associated with pulmonary oedema on therapy and worse survival. METHODS: CT thorax of 66 SSc patients with precapillary pulmonary hyp

The adaptive computer-aided diagnosis system based on tumor sizes for the classification of breast tumors detected at screening ultrasound.

Screening ultrasound (US) is increasingly used as a supplement to mammography in women with dense breasts, and more than 80% of cancers detected by US alone are 1cm or smaller. An adaptive computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system based on tumor size was proposed to classify breast tumors detected at screening US images using quantitative morphological and textural features. In the present study, a database containing 156 tumors (78 benign and 78 malignant) was separated into two subsets of different tumor sizes (<1cm and ⩾1cm) to explore the improvement in the performance of the CAD system. After

The potential role of an expert computer system to augment the opportunistic detection of individuals with familial hypercholesterolaemia from a community laboratory.

BACKGROUND: Familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) is the most common monogenic cause of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, most individuals with FH remain undiagnosed. We sought to determine if an expert system (ES) at a community laboratory could identify information relevant for estimating an individual's likelihood of FH using the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network criteria (DLCNC). METHODS: An ES (RippleDown®) retrospectively analysed laboratory results and clinical details on the current and previous lipid requests from a community laboratory in Western Australia, ove

Comparison of anomalous systemic artery to left lower lobe and pulmonary sequestration in left lower lobe by computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Differentiation of anomalous systemic artery to the left lower lobe (ASALLL) from pulmonary sequestration (PS) is essential, as ASALLL can be corrected by anastomosis, embolization, or ligation of the anomalous artery. PURPOSE: To compare computed tomography (CT) findings of ASALLL and PS in the left lower lobe (LLL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 16 patients with ASALLL and 25 patients with PS in LLL confirmed by operative and pathologic findings. RESULTS: Cough and sputum were more common in PS (84% and 60%, respectively) than in ASALLL (25% and 12.5%, respectivel
