In HPV-1 and HPV-4 induced warts as well as in HPV-6 positive condylomata acuminata the quantity of viral DNA encapsulated into virus particles was determined and compared to the total amount of viral DNA present in the papillomas. A prospective study of 31 children born of mothers with condylomata acuminata at parturition or during pregnancy was undertaken to test the hypothesis that laryngeal papilloma could be associated with venereal warts and could be acquired perinatally. The incidence of condylomata acuminata is increasing in all countries. They are one of the most frequent sexually transmitted disease (STD). The authors reported the experience of the department of Dermatology of charles Nicolle's hospital between the year 1979 and 1998. This HPV infections were in the third position of the STD and occurred mainly in young males. The clinical lesions are genital condylomata. They were successfully treated with electrodessication or cryotherapy.

Small condylomata acuminata are easily diagnosed clinically and are not often difficult to treat. Giant condylomata, however, can pose real problems in diagnosis and treatment. They must be distinguished from verrucous carcinomas or giant condylomata with squamous malignant change.
