Low and high resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for untargeted metabolomics: A tutorial.

GC-MS for untargeted metabolomics is a well-established technique. Small molecules and molecules made volatile by derivatization can be measured and those compounds are key players in main biological pathways. This tutorial provides ready-to-use protocols for GC-MS-based metabolomics, using either the well-known low-resolution approach (GC-Q-MS) with nominal mass or the more recent high-resolution approach (GC-QTOF-MS) with accurate mass, discussing their corresponding strengths and limitations. Analytical procedures are covered for different types of biofluids (plasma/serum, bronchoalveolar l

Trajectory mapping of primary Sjögren's syndrome via transcriptome learning demonstrates limitations of peripheral blood sequencing.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by aberrant immune cell action against secretory glands throughout the body. A number of studies have previously identified unique characteristics in the circulating expression profile of white blood cells of pSS patients. However, the molecular progression pattern of pSS is unclear. Through a systematic analysis of pSS transcriptome information, we found that pSS transcriptomes display broad heterogeneity, but cannot be distinguished from the broad range of possible profiles of healthy controls. Instead, only sampl

Sensitivity and specificity of drug interaction databases to detect interactions with recently approved oral antineoplastics.

RATIONALE: Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) with oral antineoplastics (OAs) are of increasing concern given the rapid increase in OA approvals and use in cancer patients. A small pilot study of 20 DDIs with OAs showed significant variability in commonly used DDI screening databases in sensitivity of detecting potentially clinically relevant DDIs. This study builds upon that work by expanding the number of potential DDIs analyzed and including a specificity analysis. METHODS: Newly approved OAs from 2016 to May 2019 (n = 22) were included in this analysis. Prescribing information for each drug wa

Association of childhood vaccination with pediatric lichen planus: A systematic review.

Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic T-cell-mediated mucocutaneous inflammatory disease, largely recognized in adults. It is uncommon in children, and the literature present still lacks comprehensive understanding mainly due to underreporting of such cases. LP shows atypical clinical features, when seen in children, mainly affecting the flexor aspect of the wrists, legs, and the oral and genital mucosae. It is largely considered an autoimmune response of the body with various etiologic factors. Its association with vaccination is still an interesting field for research. The focus of the present sys
