PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to test the efficacy of ChemfortTM, an air filtration closed-system drug transfer device to prevent release of chemotherapy drug vapors and aerosols under extreme conditions. The air cleaning system is based on the adsorption of drug vapors by an activated carbon filter in the Vial Adaptor before the air is released out of the drug vial. The functionality of the carbon filter was also tested at the end of device's shelf life, and after a contact period with drug vapors for 7 days. Cyclophosphamide and 5-fluorouracil were the chemotherapy drugs tested.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Most of the illicit cocaine consumed in the United States and elsewhere is contaminated with levamisole, a veterinary medication. Agranulocytosis caused by levamisole exposure through cocaine abuse was first described in 2009. Since then, levamisole has also been shown and is known to cause vascular and neurologic complications. In this review, we provide an overview of the medical consequences of exposure to levamisole from adulterated cocaine.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a headspace gas chromatography method for determining dimethyl sulphate residual in granisetron hydrochloride.
METHODS: An Angilent INNOWAX capillary column with nitrogen gas as carrier and FID as detector was applied in this study. Dimethyl sulphate was tested under a constant column temperature.
RESULT: Dimethyl sulphate had different retention time from other organic solvents such as alcohol,acetoacetate, isopropanol, dichlormethane and chloroform, which might exist in granisetron hydrochloride. The detection limit of dimethyl sulphate;s was 0.0016%.

The current study assesses the effect of extending column length during gradient packed column sub/supercritical fluid chromatography (PCSFC) experiments on the detection of known and unknown impurities in a drug substance sample. Quantitative drug substance impurity profiles were generated and compared using multiple column PCSFC and HPLC conditions. Also, chromatographic figures of merit were estimated and compared for components of a standard mixture during PCSFC experiments, which used one column, four columns, and six columns in series.

Antibiotics and chemotherapeutics in food may only be present in concentrations below a toxicologically approved level. To check the established limits laboratories depend on reliable methods: on the one hand rapid and inexpensive screening tests (biological and immunological methods), on the other hand rather costly but very specific chemical-analytical reference methods. The results of residue testing in a big slaughter plant are presented. Residues of antibiotics were mainly found in calves. The most frequently detected drugs were tetracyclines, sulfonamides and aminoglycosides.
