In the past 6 years 26 patients underwent operation for recurrent duodenal ulcer after what was considered to be an "adequate" initial operation. In such patients it is necessary first to demonstrate the recurrent ulcer and then to determine its cause. Endoscopy was the best means of confirming the diagnosis. The cause of recurrence was determined by tests for gastric acid secretion; 70% of patients had hyperacidity and 80% had positive results of the Hollander test. BACKGROUND: High-resolution manometric studies below the stomach are rare due to technical limitations of traditional manometry catheters. Consequently, specific motor patterns and their impact on gastric and small bowel function are not well understood. High-resolution manometry was used to record fed-state motor patterns in the antro-jejunal segment and relate these to fasting motor function.
METHODS: Antro-jejunal pressures were monitored in 15 healthy females using fiber-optic manometry (72 sensors at 1 cm intervals) before and after a high-nutrient drink.

Duodenal duplication cyst is an extremely rare congenital anomaly usually diagnosed in childhood. However, it may remain asymptomatic for a long period. In adults it usually manifests with symptoms related to complications as pancreatitis, jaundice, or intussusception. We present the radiology findings of a patient with a duodenal intussusception secondary to a duplication cyst. The usefulness of the magnetic resonance (MR) in this case is highlighted.

AIM: To test the hypothesis that duodenal colonization represents the final crucial step in the development of Helicobacter pylori related duodenal ulcer.
METHODS: Patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia who had gastric colonization by H. pylori were included in the study. At baseline endoscopy, we evaluated the prevalence of duodenal colonization (culture, urease testing and histology), and cytotoxin-associated gene A status (polymerase chain reaction). No patients received eradication during 1 year follow-up. At this time, endoscopy was repeated and the incidence of duodenal ulcer was assessed.

Therapeutic endoscopy is followed by complications in less than 5% of cases. We report a case of an intramural duodenal hematoma after local endoscopic injection of 28 mL of adrenaline 1/10,000 for a bleeding duodenal peptic ulcer. This hematoma was associated with acute pancreatitis and was revealed by a hemoperitoneum.
