Percutaneous atrial septal defect closure in Ebstein's anomaly.

We report a patient with Ebstein's anomaly, on chronic milrinone therapy for right ventricular failure, who underwent palliative percutaneous closure of her atrial septal defect (ASD) due to recurring strokes. Repeated evaluation of right-sided pressures was performed prior to ASD closure to determine if our patient could tolerate the intervention. Definitive ASD closure was performed under fluoroscopic and transesophageal echocardiogram guidance.

Atrialized right ventricular myxoma in a patient with Ebstein's anomaly.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare entity affecting around 1 in 200,000 live births and accounts for less than 1% of congenital heart diseases. Ebstein's anomaly with an associated right-sided myxoma is extremely rare, with only one other case report found in the literature. Previous reports have also noted cases of Ebstein's anomaly associated with left-sided myxomas. We describe a female patient with, to our knowledge, the first case of a histopathologically confirmed right ventricular myxoma in the setting of Ebstein's anomaly.

Clinical aspects of myocardial fibrosis in adults with Ebstein's anomaly.

Heart failure and arrhythmia are common complications in adults with Ebstein's anomaly. They may result not only from hemodynamic alterations, but also from myocardial fibrosis. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) by CMR enables the evaluation of myocardial fibrosis. The aim of the study was to asses the presence of LGE and its relation to clinical outcome. We studied a group of 37 unoperated adults aged 43.0 ± 14.4 years with Ebstein's anomaly from the congenital heart disease outpatient clinic. Study protocol included: cardiopulmonary test, assessment of supraventricular arrhythmia (SVA), and

A rare case of Ebstein's anomaly with left ventricular noncompaction.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital cardiac disease characterized by apical displacement of the tricuspid valve with decreased right ventricular function. Left ventricular noncompaction is a cardiomyopathy characterized by the presence of numerous and prominent trabeculations together with deep intertrabecular recesses in a portion of the ventricular wall, principally at the lateral and apical level. We describe the very rare case of a patient living for 78 years with a benign form of Ebstein's anomaly and left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy with slightly reduced systolic function

Ebstein's anomaly in children: a single-center study in Angola.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Ebstein's anomaly is a rare complex congenital heart defect of the tricuspid valve. We aimed to describe the frequency, clinical profile, and early and short-term post-operative results in patients under the age of 18 years operated for this anomaly in a tertiary center in Angola. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 37 months. We analyzed all patients diagnosed with congenital heart defects. RESULTS: Of the 1362 patients studied, eight (0.6%) had Ebstein's anomaly; six patients (75%) were female. Mean age was 69±59 months.

The functional right ventricle and tricuspid regurgitation in Ebstein's anomaly.

BACKGROUND: The size of the functional right ventricle of patients with Ebstein's anomaly is, according to contemporary opinion, small. However, the in vivo size of the functional right ventricle in patients with Ebstein's anomaly is unknown. Furthermore, it is unknown how the apical displacement and regurgitant fraction of the tricuspid valve in Ebstein's anomaly affects the size of the functional right ventricle. Therefore the primary aim of this study was to determine the volume of the functional right ventricle in patients with Ebstein's anomaly. The secondary aim of this study was to asse

Surgical treatment for neonatal Ebstein's anomaly with circular shunting.

We report a case of surgical treatment for neonatal Ebstein's anomaly with circular shunting. A prenatal diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly was made at 30 weeks of gestation. In addition to severe tricuspid regurgitation, severe pulmonary regurgitation was also noted, resulting in a 'circular shunt'. At 38 weeks and 2 days of gestation, the baby was delivered by Caesarean section. A two-stage palliative operation was planned. As the first palliation, the pulmonary artery was ligated 1 h after birth to eliminate the circular shunt. Lipo-prostaglandin E(1) was administrated continuously to keep the

Successful cryoablation of Mahaim tachycardia in a child with Ebstein's anomaly.

Mahaim fibers with decremental atrioventricular (AV) node-like conduction properties comprise less than 3 % of accessory pathways. Radiofrequency ablation of right atriofascicular pathways guided by a distinct Mahaim potential detected at the anterolateral to posterolateral tricuspid annulus or in the right ventricular free wall is a safe and highly effective treatment method. The case report presents a 16-year-old boy with Ebstein's anomaly and symptomatic wide complex tachyarrhythmia. The electrophysiologic study and the entire ablation procedure were performed using a three-dimensional mapp

Catheter ablation of arrhythmias in ebstein's anomaly: a multicenter study.

INTRODUCTION: In patients with Ebstein's anomaly (EA) arrhythmias are frequently encountered. Although most arrhythmias can be targeted with catheter ablation, specific issues render the procedure more challenging in EA. This study examines the mechanisms of the different arrhythmias related to EA and the outcome after catheter ablation. METHODS AND RESULTS: Clinical and procedural data of catheter ablation in patients with EA in 4 European centers were analyzed. In 32 patients (mean age 24 ± 15 years), 34 accessory pathways (APs), 8 intra-atrial reentry tachycardias (IART), 5 cavotricuspid i

Ebstein's anomaly with an atrial septal defect in a jindo dog.

A 7-month-old, female jindo dog was presented with severe ascites, cyanosis, and exercise intolerance. Diagnostic imaging studies revealed Ebstein's anomaly with an atrial septal defect. The dog was managed medically with inotropics, diuretics, and vasodilators.

Endomyocardial fibrosis mimicking Ebstein's anomaly: a diagnostic challenge.

Endomyocardial fibrosis is a rare disease that is seen most commonly in tropical countries. It usually presents with characteristics of right-heart failure. Herein, we report the case of a 14-year-old adolescent boy who experienced endomyocardial fibrosis. Upon transthoracic echocardiography, the condition was mistakenly diagnosed as Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve. Sixteen months after undergoing tricuspid annuloplasty and receiving a bidirectional Glenn shunt, the patient showed no echocardiographic evidence of valvular regurgitation. We discuss imaging and surgical techniques that

[Repair of Ebstein's anomaly in an elderly patient; report of a case].

The operative repair of Ebstein's anomaly is performed usually during the younger age. On the other hand, the operative indication of asymptomatic Ebstein's anomaly in adult patients has not been clearly defined. We encountered a 71-year-old female patient with asymptomatic Ebstein's anomaly. Because of severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and right ventricular dilatation, we repaired the tricuspid valve configuration. The operation was successful and medium term result was excellent. We believe that severe TR with moderate right ventricular dysfunction can be the operative indication in adult

Combination of a Hetzer operation and a Sebening stitch for Ebstein's anomaly.

OBJECTIVE: In order to improve the function of the anterior leaflet as a monocusp valve in tricuspid valve repair for Ebstein's anomaly, a single-stitch technique after Sebening, creating a hinge point of the anterior leaflet on the ventricular septum on the opposite side, was newly incorporated into the Hetzer operation (either posterior annulorrhaphy or the double-orifice technique). We describe the operative technique of the modified operation and present the initial results. METHODS: Eleven patients who underwent the modified operation were involved in the study. Tricuspid valve function
