INTRODUCTION: There is increasing evidence that green care (from nature-in-everyday life and nature-based health promotion to nature-based therapy) can promote mental health and well-being. However, there is contradictory evidence and few large-scale international studies focused on health inequities. The GreenME project aims to identify ways in which effective green care can be scaled-up to improve adult mental health and well-being equity while contributing to multiple socio-ecological co-benefits across the Global North.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: GreenME's approach is threefold: (i) to diagnos

INTRODUCTION: As new topical and systemic treatments become available for atopic dermatitis (AD), there is a need to understand how treatments are being used in routine clinical practice, their comparative effectiveness and their long-term safety in diverse clinical settings.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The TARGET-DERM AD cohort is a longitudinal, observational study of patients with AD of all ages, designed to provide practical information on long-term effectiveness and safety unobtainable in traditional registration trials. Patients with physician-diagnosed AD receiving prescription treatment (to

INTRODUCTION: Difficulty with walking can lead to reduced quality of life for people with Parkinson's disease (pwPD); improving walking is considered a treatment priority. Drug therapies can control PD symptoms; however, pwPD often still experience mobility problems.Functional electrical stimulation (FES) induces movement in weak muscles via external electrical stimulation. FES is used in stroke and multiple sclerosis patients to correct dropped foot by stimulating the common peroneal nerve and is associated with improved quality of life and mobility. The randomised feasibility study preceding

OBJECTIVES: Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), patient engagement and shared decision-making are important considerations throughout clinical trials, including the research ethics review stage. Meaningfully integrating these considerations can enhance the relevance and generalisability of trial results and reduce participation barriers among equity-deserving populations. Presently, it is unclear to what extent such guidance is provided at the ethics application stage for clinical trials. This study aimed to report the degree of guidance on EDI, patient engagement and shared decision-making

INTRODUCTION: Rates of neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) have paralleled the rise of opioid use during pregnancy. While short-term phenotypic symptoms of NOWS are well defined, molecular implications and long-term effects are not well understood. Preferred and first-line of treatment for NOWS includes non-pharmacological interventions; however, more than half of the NOWS neonates will need pharmacologics, with opioids as the primary pharmacological treatment. While effective at reducing symptoms, treating NOWS with opioids is paradoxical given that molecular and long-term developmenta

BACKGROUND: Nurses are pivotal in primary healthcare and often serve as the first point of patient contact. Delivering evidence-based care is essential for ensuring high-quality services. Clinical research in hospital settings provides the evidence base that supports such care. This study aimed to assess nurses' knowledge of clinical research ethics and their attitudes toward conducting research at a university hospital.
METHODS: A pretested semi-structured questionnaire, developed from literature and expert input, was used to collect data on demographics, research knowledge, and attitudes to

In response to public concerns about the consequences of research misconduct, academic institutions have become increasingly cognizant of the need to implement comprehensive, effective training in the responsible conduct of research (RCR) for faculty, staff, students, and external collaborators. The ability to meet this imperative is challenging as universities confront declining financial resources and increasing complexity of the research enterprise. The authors describe the University of Pittsburgh's design, implementation, and evaluation of a Web-based, institution-wide RCR training progra

Most of transplanted organs are obtained from brain death (BD) donors. In neurocritical patients with catastrophic injuries and decompressive craniectomy (DC), which show a dreadful development in spite of this treatment, DC could be a futile tool to avoid natural progress to BD. We propose if cranial compressive bandage (cranioplasty with bandage) could be an ethically correct practice, similar to other life-sustaining treatment limitation (LSTL) common methods. Based on a clinical case, we contacted with the Assistance Ethics Committee and some bioethics professionals asking them two questio

Critical ethical questions arise concerning whether studies among adolescents of new behavioral and biomedical HIV preventive interventions such as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) should obtain parental permission. This paper examines the relevant regulations and ethical guidance concerning waivers of parental permission, and arguments for and against such waivers. Opponents of such waivers may argue that adolescent decision-making is "too immature" and that parents always have rights to decide how to protect their children. Yet requiring parental permission may put adolescents at risk, and/or

The emergence of practice-based research networks (PBRN) has facilitated the execution of multifaceted community-based studies. As study complexity increases, so does the number of methodological barriers encountered. This paper's goal was to delineate methodological barriers and to evaluate the effectiveness of selected strategies and approaches developed and implemented in allowing a prospective, national PBRN cohort study to succeed in enrolling geographically dispersed mother/healthy term infant dyads (n = 4300) on the day of post-partum discharge. Specific methodological barriers included

Delays in research on emerging infections could deprive the public of appropriate therapies. This report describes challenges encountered in implementing two multicenter protocols of West Nile virus (WNV) infections in the United States during 2003. Protocol development times, federal regulatory approvals, and local Institutional Review Boards (IRB) approvals were compiled. Twenty eight institutions participated in a natural history study and 27 in a therapeutic trial of WNV developed through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease Collaborative Antiviral Study Group (CASG). INTRODUCTION: Cryopreservation at -80°C in dimethylsulphoxide extends platelet shelf-life from 7 days to 2 years. Only limited comparative trial data supports the safety and effectiveness of cryopreserved platelets as a treatment for surgical bleeding. Cryopreserved platelets are not currently registered for civilian use in most countries.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: CLIP-II and CLIPNZ-II are harmonised, blinded, multicentre, randomised, controlled clinical non-inferiority trials comparing bleeding, transfusion, safety and cost outcomes associated with cryopreserved platelets versus conventional li

INTRODUCTION: Abnormal coagulation function aggravates the prognosis of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). It was reported that the antifibrinolytic drug tranexamic acid (TXA) could reduce intracranial haemorrhage and mortality in non-operative patients with TBI. However, there is a lack of evaluation of TXA in patients with TBI undergoing craniotomy.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a single-centre randomised controlled, double-blind, parallel study aiming to investigate the effectiveness and safety of TXA in patients with TBI during the perioperative period. Blood loss and transfusion
