The case studies of four patients, two men and two women between the ages of 42 and 54 years, are described. They presented to a hospital emergency department during the summer months with acute fever and exanthema. These are the primary symptoms of Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF), an endemic rickettsial disease in the Mediterranean basin that is seen particularly during the summer. Mediterranean Spotted Fever is a disease caused by Rickettsia conorii. It is endemic to the Mediterranean area, where, for the last few years, the number of cases has increased, possibly due, in part, to climatic factors. BACKGROUND: Human herpesvirus-7 (HHV-7) is a member of the herpesvirus family that is commonly asymptomatic during infection, but it can lead to the development of exanthema subitum. Monkeypox virus (MPXV) is a reemerging virus of global concern. An outbreak of clade I MPXV affected 20 captive chimpanzees in Cameroon in 2016. We describe the epidemiology, virology, phylogenetics, and clinical progression of this outbreak. Clinical signs included exanthema, facial swelling, perilaryngeal swelling, and eschar. Mpox can be lethal in captive chimpanzees, with death likely resulting from respiratory complications. Neonatal toxic shock syndrome (TSS)-like exanthematous disease (NTED) is a syndrome first reported in Japan. Neonates develop systemic exanthema, thrombocytopenia, and fever usually during the first week of life.
