Laboratory confirmation of chlamydial antigen in clinically suspected cases of chlamydial eye infections is important, as similar clinical picture can be presented by different infective or noninfective causes. We retrospectively analyzed the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis antigen in 690 clinically suspected patients over the last 8 years (2009-2016). The chlamydial antigen was detected using direct immunofluorescence assay. Overall, Chlamydia-specific antigen positivity was 45.5%. The eyes of 214 foetuses and newborns and 3 children of the 1st year of life dying from asphyxia, skull trauma during the delivery, perinatal infections, chromosomal diseases and newborn haemolytic disease were studied morphologically. Main pathogenetic factors of the premature infant retinopathy are presented. The results of the study indicate that the eye is involved in the pathologic process in various pathology of the perinatal period this implying the necessity of the eye morphological study in those dying perinatally and routine ophthalmologic examination of newborns.

Upadacitinib is a relatively new drug used to treat autoimmune diseases. However, patients treated with upadacitinib may develop infections. We report a case of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis that developed during upadacitinib administration. A 79-year-old woman presented with progressively decreasing vision in both eyes. Her decimal best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.2 in the right and 0.01 in the left eye. The patient was taking upadacitinib for one year. There are many causes of abnormal protrusion of one or both eyes, the most common of which is imbalance of the glands of internal secretion. Among other causes are a variety of tumors that originate behind the eye or that extend to that location from other parts in the body. Infections can extend to the orbit behind the eye from the neighboring structures such as the paranasal sinuses.
